ideas for dnetc on NVIDIA for noobs?

running a 9400GT on ubuntu 10.10 x64. tried both gpu drivers version 173 and "version current", updated from 6.7.xx to 6.10.17. can anyone help?

should i try my radeon 4350 instead? i'll have to pick that up from someone else if i do...

A Nvidia 9400 GT has a processing power of 67.2 Gflop and comes in three different sizes of memory: 256, 512 and 1024 Mb. The memory can be either DDR2 or DDR3, and for the sake of performance of both BOINC and your own needs I hope you have the version of 1024 Mb DDR3. The core runs at 550 Mhz and the memory has a 128 bits bus and can transfer data at a rate of 12.8 (DDR2) or 25.6 (DDR3) Gb/s.

An Ati HD 4350 has a processing power of 92 Gflop and has 512 Mb of DDR2. The core runs at 575 Mhz and the memory has a 64 bits bus and can transfer data at 8 Gb/s.

If you have a 9400 GT with DDR2 memory, and no budget, I'd go after the HD 4350 as it has more processing power at a slightly higher speed. It is a bit hampered by its 64 data bus though, but I am not sure if that has an impact on DNETC. Note also that a 9500 GT will have double the performance of a 9400 GT and a HD 4650 will have four times the performance of a 4350.
You'd have to buy a GT 9800 to have better performance, IF you can still find one. I think that if you want to buy Nvidia, an not a large electricity bill, you'd best buy a GT 240 (385.9 Gflop at 69 Watt). If you want a cheap running Ati performer you might want to consider a HD 5570 (520 Gflop at 39 Watt).

The most current linux version of the BOINC software is at 6.10.58 BTW

i'll have to try those tips out when i'm less tired ... i WAS running an X1250, but, after my HTPC (w/9400) died, i thought i'd try to get a few points with it.
