I think that our team should have at least 1 Athlon 64 box. I am asking that everyone try to donate as much as they can, 1, 5, 20, 50,etc. I would take the donations and build the computer. I have most of the necessary things, the only thing I need is the chip and the mobo. Anyway, this computer would only run AMD Users Projects voted on by the AMD Users members.

I already donate 100 bucks to this idea, but still need donations.

Let me know

NOTE: To donate, simply click the PayPal donate button on the left side of the page. Thanks guys!

Thats a good idea jeff - will you give the box a seperate user name so we can see how much work it does?

I will send what I currently have in my paypal account from gomez, which probs aint much!

Maybe we could expand on this type of thing as long as there's donations.

Of course. We could name it like AMD Users Team 64bit or something like that. Whatever you guys want to name it is cool. Let me know, and like I said...I need donations!

You think Athlon64 is the way to go? Ive always been leary about buying any 1st generation product, first thing of course is price, and secondly bugs.

For the price of the chip and mobo you could probably go with 2 2500 bartons running at 2.2ghz(3200) and sweet NF2 boards and save some leftover cash as well as produce more. Also you would have the option of running more than 1 project at a time. Just my 2 cents.

I dunno. It's up to the team really. I want the team to have a box or two to go on whatever the team decides. I really think the 64 bit processor will be cool. Prices have already dropped around 75 bucks. By the time, if we do get enough donations, it will probably be considerably less.

However, if we could get we could get 2 or 3 complete 2500 barton boxes going, it would be good too. They are relatively cheap.

What is the going rate on a board for the 2500?

Im using 1 MSI K7N2 Delta-L that works pretty good and 2 Shuttle AN35N Ultra 400's. The MSI i got refurbed, i think around 60 bucks, and as a matter of fact the Shuttles are on sale at Newegg for 63 dollars retail, not refurb'ed. I like the Shuttles, however they lack multipliers between 11.5 and 12.5, and they have a high pitched whine to them for some reason or another that comes and goes(theyre stuck in a closet, so no matter to me). Alot of people rave about the Asus A7N8X also, but i have no personal experience with Asus, theyre closer to 90 i believe.

My dad has the A78NX deluxe...I don't see anything extraordinary. I have the Abit KD7

I have the Asus A7N8X deluxe and love it, have heard of a few peops having Bios problems with it though.

BTW what is the approximate total cost we are looking at? I have limited amounts I can send with Christmas Coming (Kids/wife come first - lol) but would like to send something even if small.

I found a Gigabyte motherboard for athlon 64 processor, only 127.00+ free shipping!!!

perfomance to money wise, it might be more usefull to get 2 AthlonXp2800. there currently $136.00... Plus a refurbished motherboard for $41.00! Or a NEW one for:$53.00 free shipping.(refubished:Biostar Motherboard for AMD Athlon/AthlonXP/Duron processors , Model# M7NCD PRO, NEW:BIOSTAR M7VKQ PRO MICRO ATX SiS 740 - RETAIL)
The total would be cheaper, plus PROBALLY would be getting more perfomance for your mony.

The M7VKQ is a 266mhz board, the other might not be too bad, also 2500 Bartons are about 90 bucks and easily run at 3000 speeds or higher. But I agree 2 Barton or XP machines would be cheaper and better performance wise than 1 AMD64.

i understand havign a 64 box would be SPECIAL but, it'd be better for perfomance to price ratio 2 athlon xp boxes......And like he said, Athlon 2500Xp are VERY easily overclockable.
