Found another brand new project, called Radioactive@Home

Radioactive@Home is a polish science project using distributed computing capabilities of BOINC platform. The main goal of the project is to create free and constantly updated map of radiation available for all people, by gathering information about gamma radiation using using sensors connected to computers of volunteers willing to participate in the project.
Project is completely non-commercial, participating will be free of charge and the software will be licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). on your computer.
Account creation is closed, and only team Boinc@Poland is present, I am guessing they may be the founders of this project.

linux x86 only
BUT ... it REQUIRES A HARDWARE DEVICE (a Geiger counter) which they have not yet finished designing

so, it's just like Quake Catcher (http://qcn.stanford.edu/sensor/) all over again. I'm still waiting to see if anyone will join me there.

Well I'll join you and try QCN again but I cannot do the Radioactive one as I lack the Geiger counter!

I dropped out of QCN shortly after joining as I found out that
although my laptop HDDs did have the accelerometer hardware inside them,
the driver is not available for my laptop model from HP :sadface:
I tried an alternative program, but it required a BIOS update and the BIOS update that enables the accelerometer monitoring is also not available

Radioactive@home will announce on their when they have started manufacturing the Gieger device for shipping.
No one has it available yet.
Oddly a couple of people have points, but I researched this and found that there was a problem early in their startup and WU test process with failed units that 'matched' and gave a small score incorrectly.
They can be disregarded.

you can buy a QCN sensor from there website, cost 50 bucks though. I would guess the device for here will probably be similar.
