New BOINC project Yafu is here:

http://yafu.dyndns.org/yafu/

Tasks have a 22 hour expiry date so don't set too large a cache. Estimate on an i5 2.53 is 3.5 hours time to completion.

There are 1000 WU's in this first batch.
http://yafu.dyndns.org/yafu/forum_thread.php?id=4
I expect this is so that improvement changes can be made before releasing larger batches of work.
Quorum is 1 at the moment.

The windows clients all work fine! No problems. 32-bit and 64-bit. Very good so far.

I have posted about the short deadline.
BOINC Manager will jump into High-priority mode with this project to try to meet the deadline and that WILL stop other work from being processed until the default deadline period is changed.

There is also a problem with the Linux_AMD64 client not finding the libgmp.so.10 binary on some linux distributions.
http://yafu.dyndns.org/yafu/forum_thread.php?id=11
Given that is much more recent than the version included in stable releases (libgmp.so.3.x.x)
I suggested this could be included in the client as a static file.

Hey! Looks to me like they just added another 1000 WUs. Woohoo!

I'm in, I created an account but I can't start working on it until tuesday, as I am on a long weekend away with family, and only have a EEE laptop with me to check out websites and such.
See you guys there in a few days. :)

Don't use a slow machine.
Deadline is 10hrs.
Initial estimates have been increased but quite a few early starters are seeing problems getting work completed by the deadline.
Project Admin has said in thread that he will not extend the deadline.
He needs the Wus returned fast to avoid duplication of work.
(not interested in integrity, then, as the quorum is 1. Each to their own)
Any way the advice is, this project needs a fast CPU.

BTW -
I had 2 Test4Theory WUs fail in a row after I put yafu on the same machine.
Worst thing is they failed right at the end after 24 hours runtime.
Could be a coincidence.
It sounds similar to some other T4G errors people have reported.
Now doing an "A-B-A test":
I am running a 3rd T4G WU without yafu on that machine to see if T4G errors or completes before I consider yafu as the influence.

Interesting "attitude" expressed by the Admin over on the Yafu message boards. It was almost combative when Al requested an increase in run time and this was backed up by several including Zombie and Steve* both of whom have enough CPU power to crunch all of the 1000 Yafu tasks single-handedly.

Good morning and welcome, passengers, to this our landmark maiden flight on Yafu Airlines.
Please ensure that all loose items are stowed and your seat-belt is securely fastened.
This is a non-smoking flight so the no smoking indicator will remain on.
Please remain seated at all times.
The captain will turn off the seat-belt sign when we reach cruising altit....
< pause >
Oh.
Really!?
Ahem.
Here we are then.
Already.
Sorry about the safety instructions.
We don't have time to consider crashing, apparently.
You can now move around that cabin freely.
AAAAAAGH!
Get away from that drinks trolley you heathen!
Right!
Hands up whoever this uni-student belongs to!
Quickly.
I'm waiting!
< deep sigh >

Nice overtake there in the fast lane, Vaughan.
Welcome back.

Thanks Dave.

I thought I'd give this a whirl to the 100k mark as it seemed that the project could be short-lived. Get the tasks while I could.

NumberFields was just too measily on the points front. One of my fastest computers struggled through a 70,013 seconds task (19.448 hours) and got "rewarded" with 167 points or 8.6 points per hour. Sheesh! I'm out of there.

Only 19 hours, sheesh I have had two work units over 30 hours in Numbersfields. Thanks for the heads up about Yafu, maybe next after the field of horrors!

I'll start and get this added to the stats tomorrow.

I posted an addendum to nenym's linux_AMD64 solution
If you add NATE1's solution, it works.
http://yafu.dyndns.org/yafu/forum_thread.php?id=11

I haven't resolved the linux_AMD64 KVM guest compiler issue yet.
Maybe on the weekend for that, but I have a lot of things stacked up, so probably not.
It would be better if the DEV just recompiled the linux client app with the lib as a static include.

Also, I checked the windows box this morning and discovered it had over 500 tasks on it and all the wus were failing as overdue for completion.
posted about that here:

No response from admin today.
Must be doing some real work :P ... or maybe doing a linux client recompile ??? here's hoping :)

I am now on this project and looking to see if I can reach my 10K. The fields of horror is now behind me, so sad I missed the 'Triggl' for that one, but I am tied with Liuqyn again, Woo Hoo :blob3:

Just started on this, I forgot about it in the last several days... but the first WU I get has a deadline of about 10 hours only? Is that normal?

EDIT: And oddly enough, I checked back on it 5 minutes later and it had already been finished, sent, reported, and credited! (1 credit)... what's going on here?

AMDave

yes 10 hours deadline.
some wu short some really long.
5 mins for 1 credit is not bad.

Ahh... I thought they were all long, that's why I was thinking this was strange.

Thanks for the clarification Dave. :icon_thumright:

Admin has made the deadline 24 hours now and will pay credit even if task is submitted after the deadline (up to 10 hours late I think he said in reply to my post at their forum). Note the tasks are taking longer now they are factoring larger numbers. A 2.4GHz Q6600 takes >4 hours for some tasks.
