View Full Version : Temporarily suspended Marmot

Well guys.

I had Marmot running on two machines.

Then they both crashed with the same Windows API error messages.

Marmot is conflicting with the "svchost" service in Windows 2000 professional. (lost the stats for them too !)
This I can reproduce.
Several times, much to my dismay.

But why ?
That's what has got me stumped.
It shouldn't

For the time being I have suspended using Marmot until I can find a way to change my setup so I can eliminate the issue & run it without crashing my systems.

(when a "svchost" service goes down you lose at least one of your LAN / WAN communications services - not cool)

I stopped running Marmot a while back. Causing issues with my XP machine.

Anyone know how to translate a bug report into French ?

after a bit of to and fro' and a fair bit that I couldn't interpret...
I was able to get it to run without crashing everything...
for a while.

I noted that the time measurements are way off.
(Useage Time and Up Time)

It is also chewing up resources like you wouldn't believe.
The code writer ought to be ashamed.

It has taken a large chunk out of CPU time that should have been used by SoB and Dnet.

Thus I have finally removed it from the harddrive.

I checked with vaughan & Doomeva and they have given it the flick too.

I see that spjeff is giving it a go, but I see no way to keep this project on the up without causing hassles with the others and system stability.

Perhaps we should drop it from the list ?

I'm happy with that.

I checked back as promised after a long wait and Marmot FINALLY came out with version 4.1 of TheTurtle.

I have d/l'd a copy and will give it the "once over" for a couple of days. (Still "holes-in-walls" only)
I have my machines in a very stable configuration.
One crash and Ill dump the flamin' thing like a lead balloon.

Just for the record, we are now in rank 89 in this project.

Install went fine.
Response tests ok.
Will test with various DC clients and report any "hangs".

"holes-in-walls" = Windows
I also had terrible troubles on Win2K

24 hours and no hangs as yet. Looking promising.
(Yes, I just knocked on wood :D )

i got it aswell and its all going great at the moment.
It is fine within windows, this is since yesterday evening.

I will try it within UT tonight and see if it still counts all mouse movement then - if it does my scores should rocket.

It runs but I cannot send in the results. I get this error in the logs:

(vaughan) 4/22/2005 18:55 > Error: Probable server failure. Please try again later

I re-downloaded The Turtle but I still get the Windows wants to report an error message I had last year. Any help appreciated.

When I downloaded the new 4.1 marmot client, I still had a copy of the old client in my download directory & accidentally installed that. A quick sanity check after a couple of errors revealed my problem - I was running 4.0 again. Since the last install, I had changed my download directory location. I then located the new client that I had downloaded and installed that. It has been working fine for me since then.

Did you uninstall the old client first ?
Try a complete uninstall of the client & then re-install of the 4.1 client.
reports of the new client are all good. I hope it works for you.

yes,
unistall the old and then install the new, it should be fine. i have had no problmes.

i did find that only 1 machine can be per username or it re-installs iself and starts over.
