im curious to know how machiens compare against each other, and wanted to find out how much i was doing per second.

i opened paint and then got my DOS window and did a "print screen", quickly i pasted this into paint and re-opened the DOS window and did "print screen" again.
I then compred the two to see ish how much production i was doing - this is not definate but i think the top line goes year.month.day.time.hr.m.s.fraction of second
and start of the next line is generated [Gen:]

my values were
Gen: 17,363 Time 16:43:01.734
Gen: 17,447 Time 16:43:10.687

Gen: 84 Time 00:00:08.953
The differences being as above and when divided 9.382 per Second on AMD 3200+.
this may be complete rubbish but if you want to plz do it and post your results and processor done on.

Ototero

since mine is running as a service, i have taken the total amount of time in seconds 39000 and divided tht into the amount of work i have done 18265944 which comes out to 468.19 per sec. so i think i might be doing something wrong. any ideas???

we will be able to compare tomorrow as on the stats page it has the total number of evaluations for our team.

i did have mine running lke that bill as a service but after a re-boot couldn't get it to work - so with ototero's help switched to cmd line version and now am under the correct team aswell :P

Mine is running without a DOS prompt... The only way I can tell it's running is by looking at the task manager.... Is that the only way to run it??? Is that the fastest way???

Empty_5oul
12-05-2004, 03:35 PM
thats the fastest way to run it as displaying stuff takes time and cycles. Leave it for the rest of today and see what your yesterdays score is tomorrow, you can then compare it to the rest of the team - you should also get quite high in the total standings - currently ototero is 6th, im about 25th. ** seeing as you have 2 machines on you ar emore powerful than me so should get on front page as you will be in top 20.

Beerknurd

i see my way of testing has really taken off lol.

i dont know what avg:1.0 means - the very last bit. i take it avg is average, do other people have 1.0 aswell ??

jlangner
12-05-2004, 04:02 PM
I have 1.0 as well. I didn't do printscreen so I maybe off some. I just wrote down 1st 3 numbers and right when hit 0 seconds wrote next 3 then did same 1 minute later. So not 100% accurate on mine but at least pretty accurate.

jlangner
12-05-2004, 04:04 PM

On my AMD 1.2 Tbird I am getting:

Empty_5oul
12-05-2004, 04:49 PM
its better than nothing tho. i think ototero said we needed 11 machines running for a while to rank up, im not sure what speed he meant tho - now he has me (3200), beer (p4 + gateway), jeff (64 3500 + 1.2), bill (64 3200) vaughan (no idea).

thats 7 machines already - most being pretty powerful, hopefully we can take 4th with that, ototero will have to do calculations at some point, see how long or how many more machines we need converted.

jlangner
12-05-2004, 05:12 PM

Empty_5oul

jeff that would be excellent, that would hit the 11 and hopefully we will be meeting ototero's requirement

jlangner
12-05-2004, 06:42 PM
That made a major difference on the Java.

13:42 - 1070
13:43 - 1965

=14.92/sec!

jlangner
12-05-2004, 06:59 PM

Bill, what did you add?

I'm still getting 14.719 per second on AMD 64 3000+

jlangner

How can I make my client go fastest? Is it slow because it's written in Java instead of C?
The Server Virtual Machine introduced in Java 1.4 is able to dynamically work out which parts of the code are crucial to the speed of an application, ie. those parts it spends most of its time executing. Then it recompiles these bits into optimized native code for the machine its running on which is no slower than C, answering the second question.
How do I install the Server VM under Linux?
First install Java 1.4.2. Now edit your client script changing the line that looks like ...java -D... so that it looks like ...java -server -D.... Enjoy!
How do I install the Server VM Windows?
First download and install the Java 1.4.2 SDK. Now go to where the SDK was installed (probably c:\j2sdk1.4.2 and go into jre and then into bin. Now copy the folder called server by selecting it and pressing Ctrl-C. Now go to where the Public version of java was installed (probably c:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2 and go into bin and Paste by pressing Ctrl-V. A new folder should appear there called server.
If you used the windows installer or are running your island as a service then go to wherever your client was installed (Program Files/DHE perhaps) and edit (with Notepad for eg.) the wrapper.conf file. Insert the following line anywhere in the file:
wrapper.java.additional.2=-server
Now save wrapper.conf.
If you're using a script (like islandNT.bat) to run your island then edit it (with Notepad for eg.) changing the line that looks like ...java -D... so that it looks like ...java -server -D....
Enjoy!

Empty_5oul
12-05-2004, 10:19 PM
i just added it from ototeros way of installing it as a executable not a service and it has hardly made a difference. i dont know if i did it right but i C: i found a folder called EvoBIST containing related files, i edited the wrapper.conf in here.

bill i think you had it running the same way as me, have i done it properly or not ????

BigDawg
12-06-2004, 02:11 AM
Thats the way i did it. just added the -server. Its easier for me to run it as a service, i loaded it the other way so i could compare stats. still trying to find a way to make it run as fast as ototeros a64 3000. jlangners a64 3500 i can understand being faster.

Beerknurd

Bill, what did you add?

I'm still getting 14.719 per second on AMD 64 3000+

just the java -server -D, and updated my java. i figured that was the problem when i saw what jlangner posted, because i had the same thing before i read the faq.

on another note, i just read in a forum that if you use IBM's java platform it will run about 30% faster. I am going to experiment with that.

Beerknurd

Am I correct???

and make this change also

:P Why is everyone having problems except me.

Picking up on something Oli said a while back. I needed 12 people each with 2 machines to be able to crunch enough to make headway.

We're not there yet, but I've seen us move up the daily rankings :D

I wanna get 1/2 billion circuits per day or more  Yesterday we got 214 million.

Beerknurd

Empty_5oul

Beerknurd
12-07-2004, 12:52 PM
Naw, I just let them go.... They don't seem to be scoring right though... I'll give it 24 hours and then restart them... I should be crunching at 2.6M or 2.8M. But it only has me @ 1.65M or so.... I'll let it catch up.

Empty_5oul
12-07-2004, 05:56 PM
i see now a few people are more focused on SOb from recent events we are doing some mege production:

AMD Users - Work sent last hour (in McEM): 231,968
TNT - raching just 30,249
MajorGeeks - just 12,498

Things are picking up and we should have a few more positions shortly,

we need to break some more targets quickly tho,

Ototero
12-08-2004, 12:28 PM
Who's "today" are we talking about ?

I'm looking at a local spreadsheet I knocked up that shows who is crunching at this moment. I've got no results from you (Vaughan) since 8am GMT.

Yesterday, you did a mill and a half.

jlangner
12-08-2004, 01:14 PM
I have 6 full time on there now.

Ototero
12-08-2004, 01:25 PM
Great, I can see you catching me.

You're 7th fastest in the world today.

We still need more power :P

As team leader for this, I want to get to number 1 spot. Probably in 90 days.

But I might have to stick more machines on it to bring the time down.

jlangner
12-08-2004, 03:01 PM
I have 2 more I can put on - Hope it helps!

Must have been pretty good accent for you to recognize Scotty. lol.

Update: You got 7 now.

ototero do you have any other optimisatiosn to make or a way to force the IBM java to be used instead of whatever i am/was using.

Ototero
12-08-2004, 06:36 PM
At a command prompt, type java, that'll tell what version you are using.

If it's not ibm, then load it. If it's already loaded, go to control panel, select java icon (there might be 2) make sure each one is pointing to ibm.

Voila.

And I'm using the batch settings that were in the files you loaded.

Empty_5oul
12-08-2004, 06:57 PM
k it wasnt even in control panel, in c: i have 3 versions of java:
j2re1.4.0_01
j2re1.4.0_04
j2re1.4.0_06

06 being the one i need loaded, but 1.4.0_01 appearing in control panel.
it is uninstalling as we speak, i will post progress as it happens and hopefully me speed increase

Empty_5oul
12-08-2004, 07:16 PM
now in dos i type java -version and get

<build 1.4.2_06-b03>
meaning it should now be correct, however when i run DHEP i am getting speeds of 5.5/sec up to 6/sec - this is shocking for a XP 3200+.

Ototero
12-08-2004, 07:54 PM
In the dos box, does it say IBM, mine does.

Are you running anything else apart from WP and TKC

Empty_5oul
12-08-2004, 08:11 PM
the exaclt wording does not have IBM in.

java version "1.4.2_06"
Java<tm> 2 Runtime environment, standard edition <build 1.4.2_06-b03>
Java Hotspot<tm> Client VM <build 1.4.2_06-b03, mixed mode>

can i have a new link to the IBM java then plz

Ototero
12-08-2004, 08:17 PM
You've got Sun,

Click Downloads on the left Then click java.

Empty_5oul
12-08-2004, 08:30 PM
42.9meg !!!!!!

i think i remember starting that download then deciding i would use what i already had - i installed the java version we use at college here. the dl speeds are quite good downloading from this site, sorry if im lagging it for everyone else lol ;)

Ototero
12-08-2004, 08:31 PM
I've just DLed it for another machine :?

Empty_5oul
12-08-2004, 08:39 PM
would have been quicker to copy and paste wouldnt it, definatley for me using sata drives - amazing data transfer speeds

Ototero
12-08-2004, 08:43 PM
Nah, I'm on an 11.b wireless

Empty_5oul
12-08-2004, 09:03 PM
java version "1.4.0"
Java<tm> 2 Runtime environment, standard edition <build 1.4.0>
Classic VM <build 1.4.0, J2RE 1.4.0 IBM Windows build cn140-20020902 <JIT enabled: jitc>>

i take it this is finally right, also now in control panel i get IMB java plug-in 1.4.0

is this it ??? i did my test and got 10.3/sec which is better

Ototero
12-08-2004, 09:26 PM
Yee ha.

Is that on your 3200+

I'm still getting 14+ on my 64 3000+

Empty_5oul
12-08-2004, 09:31 PM
yep, still on the 3200+.

to install somewhere else e.g. gateway i install java first then copy over DHEP files and create new / edit batch file as its in a different location.

then it should work immediatley ?

Ototero
12-08-2004, 09:43 PM
Yep, that easy.

Go for it.

jlangner
12-08-2004, 10:49 PM
K - Just put pc #8 on it. Also, I am using Sun Java on all. Is there much difference as far as speed? I am getting 14.92 on 64-3500@2.2ghz.

BigDawg
12-08-2004, 10:57 PM
i think it makes a diff. i am getting around 17+/ps on my socket 754 3200+

but the diff between 14 & 17 only ads up to 259,200 over a 24hour period. it makes a diff to me since i am only running one machine, but where as you are running 6+ if you could get a 2per second increase on 5 machines that would be an increase of 864,000 per day.

BigDawg

Congrats jlangner, just Broke 100million in dhep =D<

Jeff,

Oli went from 5.5 to 10.3 on his 3200+ when he switched from Sun to IBM.

Empty_5oul
12-09-2004, 09:35 AM
i got a mega boost - i would definatley reccomend it, simple to do aswell.

add / remove programs take ALL java off then dl new java and install, say yes to all and then at end check it is in control panel (imb java plug-in) rather than java plug-in 1.0.06 or whatever it was.

checking the most powerful for today we have:
3rd - ototero
4th - jlanger
7th - gilligans
14th - Empty_5oul

i really cant believe im there from 1 machine, oh well.

Empty_5oul
12-09-2004, 11:14 AM
right, its noe on the gateway running under IBM java. installed exactly the same and getting a grand score of 1/second (433MHz)
ohwell, guess it will add to my score a tiny fraction lol :P

jlangner
12-09-2004, 01:15 PM
k - I'll try - dang, got to switch 9 pcs. lol. oh well. BTW I put las pc I have on it - so got 9 now. Is that enough to accomplish our goal? BTW congrats yourself - You are Gilligan, right? lol

jlangner
12-09-2004, 01:27 PM
Java question - I am running as a service now. With Sun, you had to install Java run time and SDK. After installing you had to copy server folder from sdk to rt. What do you need to do with ibm to run as a service?

Ototero
12-09-2004, 01:42 PM
Nothing, there is no server parameter.

jlangner
12-09-2004, 02:34 PM
k - Thanks

Empty_5oul
12-09-2004, 05:02 PM
so what is the speed increase of running as a service compared to dos box like then - in IBM java, surely the saving isnt that vast.

jlangner
12-09-2004, 05:34 PM
no but, since some of mine are at work. Peops would keep closing out the dos box. :D

Ototero
12-09-2004, 05:45 PM
From what I've garnered from other forums, the Sun SDK -server parm gives the same speed as IBM java.

I have no comparison times for Dos / CLI.

Empty_5oul
12-09-2004, 06:48 PM
k,
i was wondering if there was an equivilent for the -server command that was possible in IBM - then they would be really good lol.

jlangner
12-09-2004, 09:11 PM
Then since I am using server parm, I am not going to switch right now.

jlangner
12-09-2004, 10:42 PM
My stats haven't gone up in awhile. Is the server down?

BigDawg
12-10-2004, 02:03 AM
it must be down. keep getting a socket timeout when trying to connect

jlangner
12-10-2004, 02:15 AM
We must have drained all available work - lol.

Ototero
12-10-2004, 05:42 AM
Yep, it seems to be down

BigDawg
12-10-2004, 07:23 AM

12-10-2004, 12:51 PM
