A few things you may need to know for the WCG race. We currently have a few sub projects that are not giving out work. C4CW and HCMD2 are both off and waiting for the servers at the scientist end to accept uploads again. We recently had a few Beta runs for a new project that may be going live before or during the race. If your a badge hunter at WCG it is looking like your chances to upgrade Help conquer cancer will be ending soonest with Help Fight Childhood Cancer finishing next.

It looks like HFCC will be down for a while too. This was recently posted at WCG forums:

We have reduced the feeder priority of the Help Fight Childhood Cancer project as the current target is reaching it's conclusion and the new target is not yet available. Users with only the Help Fight Childhood Cancer project selected should be able to continue receiving work units while users with multiple projects selected will receive Help Fight Childhood Cancer work units less often. Reducing the project priority allows users with only the Help Fight Childhood Cancer project selected to continue to receive work units for a longer period of time.

We closed day one as #15, and the only problem now seems how to get more new WUs, as they are as scarce as hen's teeth.
Luckely I still have a reservoir of "Pending" results, but at this rate this will soon dry up I'm afraid.

We're not seeing any problem getting work here, the ruby badge is in the bank, probably have emerald by the next update. :)

We can -yesterday and today- only see silver and emerald in your signature, where's your ruby?
At the challenge stats I discovered an as yet not displayed by you golden GOFAM badge though (http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/team_badges.php?team=Z95RSMBR9N1&do=update), the first badge for that project, team-wise. Congratulations!

I have to manually update the badge pic in the signature, in this forum, it updates automatically in the WCG forum if you follow along in the project recognition thread.

You can have your WCG sub-signature update automatically as well, you'll see my HFC2 badge appear in a day or three, I only need to change

Haven't found another team member with a GOFAM badge yet and Ramjet does have the same set as Jason => Ramjet=Jason

Giving her almost all i got on this end. I don't think i'm turning on my single core though as my electric bill is going to be large enough.
I will retire my last single core (a Socket 754 AMD Athlon64 3400+) asap and replace it with either a AM3+ board and a quad Athlon II for the time being (wanting a Bulldozer FX-8100) or a FM1 board with a A4-3400 for the time being (wanting an A8-3800). Strange as it sounds, this will actually save money, power-bill wi$e...
It will also make my father happy, after just having replaced his Sempron 3000+ with an Athlon64 2800+ may not be the upgrade he'd expected it to be.

And the end of day two sees us back at #14 again. We are slowly gaining on BOINC@AUSTRALIA and boinc.at, so set WCG at 100% resource for the next days!

Any ideas?

http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Jason1478963_0.png should do the trick, otherwise try http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Jason1478963_9.png (replaced '0' with '9' to divide your 18 badges into two rows) For three rows use '6': http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Jason1478963_6.png. Take care to use [img], not [sigimg].

P.S. Interesting bug that gives you a higher badge when choosing more rows...

3 hours to go for day 3 and we've dropped to #15 (http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/statistiken/teamstats_en_83_AMD+Users.html)
Just 1 WU for HFC2 would get me a bronze badge, but I don't have one in queue now. At this rate one of my other badges might get promoted sooner.

you may need to remove all other projects to load up on hfcc if your trying to up that badge

your welcome. I have been watching the boards and believe they are finishing up a work unit set on HFCC and HCC is also moved to low priority last I looked. That makes it almost impossible to get work for hfcc or HCC if you have other projects selected. It will be interesting to see HCC wrap up and hopefully see an HCC2 with GPU added to the mix.

Jason1478963
11-19-2011, 04:19 AM
It looks like HCMD2 is also back from no work units to the low priority status during ramp up. (scientist server issues I believe is the reason for the down time)

3 hours to go for day 3 and we've dropped to #15 (http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/statistiken/teamstats_en_83_AMD+Users.html)
The last hour brought us back to #14 position for day 3, but now it's day 4 and My Online Team have passed us yet again. I'm presently doing my best to get a HCC Gold Badge, but that project may dry up before I get to the magical 90 days of processing barrier. According to Seti-Germany Jason is still the only GOFAM baddge bearer of the team, but they have him still at ruby (http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/team_badges.php?team=Z95RSMBR9N1&do=update). But when you look at the older postings in this thread you will see his seti-germany signature has changed to emerald for all presentations.

Last hour of day 4 brought us an astonishing -488.721 points (http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/statistiken/teamstats_en_83_AMD+Users.html) (MINUS, yes), we're still at #15.
P.S. Looks like they corrected the 24th hour of the 19th with the 3rd hour of the 20th: we received 666.920 in that hour, roughly about 6 times of our average.
P.P.S. Checked with our opponents: The same story. Every team got a setback between 23:00 and 24:00 on the 19th, and received those points back between 02:00 and 03:00 on the 20th. At the moment it should take us one day to get past BOINC@AUSTRALIA, while team Andrax will pass us in their turn in about two days. The HFC2 bronze badge is in the bank, now for the display...

We also have the sapphire for the new project now. This race sure isn't helping the electric bill :P

Dirk Broer
11-20-2011, 03:44 PM
You must have an awful lot of computers running to be able to get to sapphire so quick, and darned quick ones amongst them at that.
I just made it to bronze with HFCC, and I had returned WUs before...

A few more hours to go on day 5, and a lot has happened:
Team Andrax has fallen to 16th place, but is catching up again;
Meisterkuehler.de Team which had a very good day#1 (5th!) even fell 3 places and is currently 15th and falling further down;
My Online Team is a sort of yoyo-ing around us all the time and currently 14th;
We've jumped to the 13th position and are on our way up;
Before us, at #12, looms BOINC@AUSTRALIA and before them the boinc.at team holds a secure #11 place.

During the challenge team members have reached the following personal results (at least):
Jason1478963 got a sapphire GFAM (Malaria) http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Jason1478963_9.png;
xwingace took his gold DSFL badge (Leishmaniasis) http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_xwingace_6.png;
Jaker788 took a silver TCEP2 (Clean Energy-2) http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Jaker788_6.png;
I took a bronze HFCC (Childhood Cancer) http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Dirk+Broer_6.png;
and Chris got a bronze GFAM working for Hunters Science Team http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Chris+1968_6.png

And day 5 is over, two days to go. In the last hours we've seen boinc.at, that had a secure 11th position, actually climb up to #10 at the cost of their southern neigbours, BOINC.Italy. BOINC@AUSTRALIA has gotten wind from us and is speeding up, as is the team below us, MyOnline Team. The Meisterkuehler.de Team has now dropped to #16 (no cooling problems I hope for their sake..) and is replaced at #15 with Team Andrax, that has about the same yoyo-ing around us behaviour as MyOnline Team. They will say the same about us, no doubt.

The man actually has a host list that is longer than my left arm! Not all 137 active (co$t$ too much, as my 4 systems at 24/7 already prove to be), but nevertheless....I do not envy your power bill, must be even higher than mine!

Actually, a lot of those hosts are the same machine via dual boot windows/linux.

Dirk Broer
11-21-2011, 11:55 AM
Isn't it more efficient to let the Linux machines reside inside a VM such as with Test4Theory? Then you can run Windows and Linux WUs at the same time on the same physical machine.

Jason1478963
11-21-2011, 12:04 PM
I believe the windows file system seems to slow linux down. It is best to just forget windows and just run linux from what I have seen so far. We are seeing two similar systems and a performance loss in windows equal to approximately 3.6 ghz(6 cores x 600mhz) compared to a linux setup. I believe others have tried what your talking about with WCG clean energy project and experience a performance hit.

Day 6 has arrived (busy for 17 hours challenge-time) and we've dropped again to #15 (http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/statistiken/challenge.php), being chased by the Christians! Enough to turn heathen...:icon_evil:
Both MyOnline Team and Team Andrax have jumped over us now (for the time being) and the Australians, Italians and Austrians are getting out of sight. Everybody from our team is suddenly getting long WUs?:dontknow:

On the sunny side of things: member Prophet194 reached bronze at HCMD2 (Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy-Phase 2): http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/badge_Prophet194_6.png

Dirk Broer
11-21-2011, 11:37 PM
At the end of day 6 we're still at #15, but the Christians have in the meantime been passed by BRASIL - BRAZIL@GRID.
Only a giant final push effort will get us back to the #13 position, I'm afraid.

Ramjet

Well considering this race ran concurrent with the PrimeGrid race, I think we did pretty good nailing down a 15th place out of 101 teams.

Congrats to all who participated!! :icon_thumright:

Hmmm..... The race details on Seti-Germany's site states: What is the starting date? How long will it take?
The challenge takes place from November 16 to November 22, 2011.

To me, the word TO means until. If it included the 22nd, would it not say Thru?

Dirk Broer
11-22-2011, 01:04 PM
That is good question, but one look at the challenge site and you will see that it is still running.
It is always handy in these circumstances to name the date and time that a challenge ends.
And you have to remember that the organisers do not have English as first language, they will have translated the German 'bis' as 'to'.
But the German 'bis' can have several meanings in English, amongst them to, for and until

Fat lady has sung, here are the end results (http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/statistiken/challenge.php): We stayed 15th, and almost made it to #14 in the last hour.
