For some reason, my PC occasionally either reboots straight away, or hits a machine check exception when using SOB. Anyone any ideas why?

What are the temperatures like? Might be getting too hot and triggering a reboot.

have a look in the bios as Vaughan says at the temperatures and voltages, make sure everyhting is in check and not jumping around.

need more info to help
h/w specs, os version & svc pack
esp. SoB client version..

Try running something else on it and see if it still does it.

Also do a thorough check for malware - run your spyware removal tools and do a full virus scan (update definitions first of course).
Check you have the latest updates from MS. Also install their new anti-spyware application.

I never have that problem, I have had my dell on for almost 2 weeks without a reboot and it's never given me a problem. I have had SOB running the whole time. It's got to be either the processor is getting too hot or your power supply is failing and causing the reboot.

well its definetly not spyware, a) i don't use IE and b) i can tell when stuff like that is installed, i have a process monitor / guard.
i'll check out the voltages in the bios later, it's usually ~50c after running... i haven't made any changes to hardware...

AMD 2700+
2x256MB RAM chips, with a 128mb framebuffer shared.
2xDVD-ROM [1 is DVD-RAM]
1xHD
1xFloppy
its an nvidia graphics chip

if i remember back, im sure it done this when it was above 90% on a proth test the last time...

I have a machine at work that locks unexpectedly and finally figured out that it seemed to be the SOYO Motherboards on-board sound causing the problem.

one thing i have found is try the internal cabeling, make sure everyhting is plugged in properly.
-- a harddrive having the power cable worked loose means it will work sometimes but not others.

What OS are you running?

atm, im running windows xp, and i doubt it'll be loose cabling as the pc hasnt been opened since it was bought, but i'll check that anyway as i plan to install more ram soon :)

its quite strange it hasn't rebooted at all today which makes me think that a combination of apache server with mysql and sob seems to crash, as the two apart don't do it... strange...

i guess it could be the software mismatching then :S
