i have a problem with a server. Someone is forwarding from their site to our site, on our server. This may sound odd but we do not want this extra traffic. How is it possible to ban people coming from the other site but allow people typing the URL in who are real visitors to visit freely ??

I'm not sure there is, other than to make a slight change to the name of the file or directory. This should break their link.

You can block redirections from another site

Use the web logs to identify the source IP address and block it via your firewall.

Then email their admin telling them that you would be ahppy to redirect all their traffic to another site like theirs but which is not theirs. They fix things really fast when you say that. So would I.

We have looked at the logs and it would appear that if the unwanted traffic comes from a domain that has been CNAME'd then the referring URL in the log is the destination.

We cannot block the IP as this would be the IP of users innocently using the site that has the CNAME.

I would appreciate any other thoughts.
