i read an article in PC world about overclocking graphics -- only for tweaking just the graphics side of things. Seemed pretty gd so i gave it a go and having no OC knowledge managed to improve my machine by 10f/s.

the program is called powerstrip (version 3.57) [ http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=718 ], then under options go on performance profiles. as the menu comes up your graphics card should be recognised and various values displyed, you then use 2 sliders to control the memory clock and enging clock. i ran 3d mark 03 at the start and just did the first 2 game tests then all the rest, after minimal incriments i ran it again etc. in 3 steps getting from engine clock = 250 up to 280 and memory clock from 320 up to 362.

very impressive and simple to do, amazing results for not much work.

You can gain a lot of performance on overclocking VGA cards and see it. But also its harder to monitor a VGA temps. try looping the test for a few hours and see if you get any artifacts from heat

my machine has run steadily for at least 1 week so far, i didnt post immediatly as i waned to check it worked.
i also installed UT 2004 3 days ago and have been playing fine with no glitches / sudden jumps / coloured squares etc.

What memory card do you have? I don't know how accuarate it is, but Nvidia drivers show temp under settings and you can set a "cap".

On mine, when you right click on desk top and go to properties, then click on advanced, then click on Geforce tab. On the left side there is a bunch of options, one of which says "Temperature Settings" and when you click on it, it shows temp of video card. At least on driver 71.22, I think earlier ones as well.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93 if you are using XP or 2000. These are the drivers for your GeForce cards

If you want more settings to fiddle with on your Nvidia GeForce 6 series or other download this: http://3dgpu.com/files/coolbits2.reg

It has extra settings (temp/clock/etc.) to bring the most out of your g-card.

I'm pretty sure it works with all recent GeForce cards. I KNOW it works for all AGP/PCIE GeForce 6 series cards.

i cant see any differences from running a fx 5200 or a fx 5700. no difference in menus or anything :?

you have a nice setup there, fx processors are very nice. we also have similar motherboard - mine being the 3rd eye. on the graphics front you are way ahead though.
