CAS@home just started testing a new application called LAMMPS on the main CAS@home server. The application is for simulating nanoscale systems of molecules using a technique called molecular dynamics. A novel job submission system has been created for this application by researchers at CAS Institute of High Energy Physics and UC Berkeley.

What will they be using besides Linux, Apache, MySQL and PhP? That's enough for most LAMPs...

You're being funny. lol
LAMMPS = "Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator"

Useless project: all tasks error out in computation errors under Win7 64-bit.

I got an error message saying I lacked the needed MSVCR71.dll file
quoting microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326922): "For Msvcr70.dll or for Msvcr71.dll, you should install the CRT DLL into your application program files directory. You should not install these files into the Windows system directories. For Msvcr80.dll and for Msvcr90.dll, you should install the CRT as Windows side-by-side assemblies."
Meaning CAS does not deliver all that is needed for its application to run on the client (they should include the .dll in their download of the application).

Yep. This incarnation of CAS clients needs work which is a surprise because they did a good job with them last year.
Not to worry. I'm sure they will fix the issues quite soon. I'm positive the scientists are looking forward to some real results.
They have plenty of motivation. And we are watching with interest :D
