I just noticed this posted at www.chessbrain.net

Bigger, stronger, faster!

The ChessBrain software is undergoing a year-long major rewrite. Our next release is designed to be massively scalable running on single processor machines to large compute clusters - and everything in between! For the first time, users will be able to build and operate their own local clusters!

I've been running it for a while now and my stats aren't updating. Both machines show up under my username but I haven't seen my stats increase.... They used to update several times a day. Is there only one update now???????

Empty_5oul
02-06-2005, 08:43 AM
from when i looked at it more recntly i think there is only 1 update per day.

vaughan
02-06-2005, 08:56 AM
Not sure how often they update but only Bruce, Ototero and myself show as returning work in Bok's stats here:

i should also appear in those stats on the next update.

Empty_5oul
02-06-2005, 02:29 PM
i am still not there (3 hours on). just wondering if free DC only takes the members from the CB server once a day and then does the work, so i wont appear till tomorrow - e.g. it still syas beerknurd is new.

Beerknurd

Vaughan's score took a nose dive yesterday.... Probably cause stats transfered when people signed up for their own account.... Poor Vaughan....

Empty_5oul
02-06-2005, 08:24 PM
well, i am just opening a load of CB peers for overnight. so hopefully i will appear ont he stats tomorrow or at least Vaughan will get some credit. have to wait and see, if only there was hourly updates, lol.

YIKES :!: :!: :!:

I hope I stop going backwards in this project soon.

I've got 6 or more instances running on most of my PCs now to try to stem the tide.

Beerknurd
02-07-2005, 12:49 PM
I have 5 instances running on each of my PC's. We'll see where that gets me.......

Beerknurd
02-07-2005, 04:08 PM
Should I have more than 5 running on my Dell 3.4..... I bet it could handle alot more....... What is the most anyone has on 1 machine???

Empty_5oul
02-07-2005, 04:54 PM
i remember from other posts (maybe not on this forum) some people say they get up 25 running. I think this is too high though as some can't process immediatly as work comes in as other instances are taking the CPU.

right now i have 5 running on my screen but once i checked task manager i actually have 8 though 3 are not displaying :S
after further checking i find as i load the agent 2 automatically load under task manger but do not appear on the screen.

Beerknurd

Thanks Oli. I may try and bump it up to 10 and see if I can get better numbers tomorrow. I guess I'll just have to play around with it.

Empty_5oul
02-07-2005, 09:22 PM
yep, see whats good for you.
what are you running with it, right now i have dnet (RC5) as it uses all resources when CB isnt but also allows CB to take resources when it needs it.

Beerknurd

2 instances of SOB. I may take it down to 1 instance and them add more ChessBrain clients.

I have run 25 on my dualie, I dont know if it'll do more..That was with modded Tbreds, havent tried with the Mobiles yet, but i think i'd be short in the ram department anyway.
Single chips should do a dozen with 512mb, but HT P4's i couldn't say(My HT is off).

I always wondered what the performance difference would be if I disabled it....... I guess I'll try it one of these days.

Both of my computers have 20 instances running now. I can already see a huge jump in my numbers. I'll let it run for a while and see if I can't gain some ground. Sorry about the drop in my SOB numbers. I only have 2 computers and it hard to spread them out over several projects.....

Never benched it either way, but it does seem snappier with it off imo.

Beerknurd

I may try that and try running different projects and test the results....

hmmm, cpu cycles for a .....chess game?

Beerknurd
02-08-2005, 02:19 PM
yea but it only uses cpu cycles when it submits.

Beerknurd

damn Oli you must have opened a few more clients. Your almost keeping up with Vaughan and bwhite.

Empty_5oul
02-09-2005, 04:26 PM
yep, i added the 64 so currently have a 3200 normal and 64 3200 working on it. 20 on each machine, so 40 open in total.
i also have RC5 running at the same time as it seems to cope with the sudden full processor capability and then lack of processing power.

each of them is far above me, my target is ototero - recently he has got me in SOB and OGR now chessbrain. I need to take some back.

Beerknurd
02-09-2005, 04:34 PM
I added clients to my machine yesterday morning and it put me ahead of you in the daily numbers. Then I woke up this morning and saw that you creamed me!!!!!

Empty_5oul
02-09-2005, 05:16 PM
lol, think of it as revenge for SOB.
I dont know how many this machine will handle but my results are very odd. the 64 has 3 days processing while 3200 has 52 yet the 64's scores are 1/3 of my total.
i think i'll sitck with this for a while.

Beerknurd

I noticed that too. My Gateway 733 is keeping up with my dell 3.4. Very strange..... My Gateway has 20 instances running and my Dell has 30.... It might be an overkill.... I was trying to benchmark them but the stats are down..... I did notice a big increase when I put 20 on each. But like I said.... 30 may be overkill on the Dell while still crunching SOB at a 2.5M rate.

Just 100 posts to go for #2000.

I wanna be a Senior Post Whore.

Empty_5oul

gd gd, i'm a little way off my next rank increase.
was it decided whatever you become your 1st start will turn to gold.

i reckon 30 could be overkill, i have got 25 on each and when they all want work they are dividing to about 8% processor each.
i think i need a new machine to catch vaughan in the daily rate, he is just unreachable.

try having sob set to idle and low processor usage in tsk manager, it made a difference for me.

Beerknurd

Ok I'll try that
