Hallo all AMD-lowers around the world! :D

I´m chrunching for 2D0L and my PC is working wery hard.
My PC:

AMD Athlon 64 +2300
RAM: 512 MB
Motherboard: Abit uguru on VIA KT8 Pro
Graphis card: ATI Radeon 9600 256 MB
HDD: Maxtor 80 GB
OP: Win XP Home

As my PC is running hard my CPU is wery hot: 176 farenheit and it is a problem.. Uguru is a program who allow me to configure t. ex. temperature. It chows the voltage for many funktions. I tried to go from deafult settings to TURBO settings. Who happen? The CPU raised temperature to 100 % and The PC schutted down for to save my pc. I started my dator and got back to deafult settings. I vill try buy another fan with heat sink but i don´t know if it is vill solve this problem?

Any tips or amswers would be much appreciatiated. :)

Kind regards
Lars-Gunnar

176 degrees! now that a hot to hot for my taste.
One of my computers uses a Athlon XP 2400+ and with the stock heat sink at 100% was 122 deg. Using the same heat sink and replacing the fan I am now running at 108 deg and allowed me to overclock another 70MHz and still be stable.

I do have a couple of questions for you?
1. I do not see the Athlon 64 +2300 on any of my charts could it be a Sempron 2300+ :?: if it is the max temp. is 194 degrees. way too hot
2. What are your case temperatures :?:
3. Have you reseated the heat sink and installed new thermal paste :?:
4. Are you overclocking :?:

All great questions daddygeek

Also, what is the normal temp in the room ?

Lagu - do you mean to write an A64 3200?
What is the ambient temp?
What is the idle temp of the CPU?
What application did you run to get it to 176°F (80°C)? Was it D2OL?
Do you have any, if so how many, case fans?
Are they sucking air into the box or expelling it out?
How dusty an environment is it?
Is the existing heat sink fan (HSF) clogged with dust?
Was any cooling tape or paste used when the CPU was installed on the motherboard (eg Arctic silver)?

Daddygreek!

I think you are right. My motherboard supports Sempron CPU but, my PC is an A 64.

1. How high temp this motherboard allows I d´ont know.
2. The cace temp is 24 Celcius
3. The answer is no
4. The same as above

The fan is running vit 5,400 rpm/min as highest.
Idle 4,400 rpm/min and 136 farenheigt

Vaughan!

1. Yes i mean an A64. You is rigt here.
2.The ambient temp is 24 C near the PC. On the floor it is the same. The radiator is closed.
3. The idle temp is 57 C / 135 F
4. Yes it is D2OL with Jawa who I run day and night
5. No I dont think so.
6. It´s not so dusty. My dator is relatvely new.
7. No I c´ant think so. I bought my PC in Dec 2004
8. I dont know. I may ask my seller, but I´m thinking to buy an IGLOO heatsink fan + an auxillary fan if need.

MY PC is standing on a table in a corner with room ventialtion. Right place for my PC is in the garage who holds 18-20 C.

I hope I have answer your questions right. I vas in need of an English - Swedish diktionary. Luckily I hawe one! :)

Hawe a good day!

Lagu, as it is a new PC I'd take it back to the reseller and ask them to fix the overheating problem. Those temps are too hot.

Vaughan!

I have to agree with you. I have many times ponder upon that as you say.

I vill tell you an  I got this morning. Because my Pc is standing near a window I leve this windows open 3-4 cm the whole day (Out it was -3 C!)! A little expieriment. When I got home and looked on Uguru the temp has sunk to 77 C / 171 F. The fan Was running between 4703- 4740 rp/m. The ambient temp vas 20 C. It´s a little bit better but, the floor was wery cold. Not so nice for my feets.

I would send my reseller an E-mail and ask him what he can do and what he has in the chop.

Thank you Vaughan who has told me what to do and what will be bad or for hot. Thank also to you all other for your deep engagement. ;)

Best regards

Empty_Soul!

I`am wery grateful to have you all in this forum. :D You all is AMD-experts.
I have 2 other PC;s at home.

1 Pentium II 233 MHz Win 98
1 Athlon (TM) 1 GHz. Win XP Home

I had newer used the Athlon to run a project. Such news that an AMD can be owerheated was new for me. I did not know what will happen if my Athlon began to chrunch for 2DOL, but I can guess that the CPU vill be wery hot. I can`t see how hot because the motherboard not have any finesses as Uguru but it may be felt on the cheet metal box if i lay my hands on it.
It should be wery interesting to put up a Network for all my PC but, it cost money and take times.

Take care of yourself! The life is shorter than we know.

Best regards

Lagu, be careful leaving the window open and a shiny new (but hot) computer near it. Some thief may steal it

You could try running D2OL on your AMD 1GHz and on your PII. Have you tried any other projects eg. DPAD for the AMD or maybe SOB for the PII.
Both can run TKC and WhatPulse if you do any typing in them. They should be OK at ChessBrain too.

Vaughan!

The window is nou closed. (Out it was -7 degre). It would outfreese me with the windows open. It vas a experiment. My PC is nou in my resellers chop. A new fan (Zalman) and an auxillary fan vill be mounted in the box. Tomorrow it is back home again

I vill see how the temp. shows when I begin to race at full trottle. Yes i vill ponder upon what to do with the other PC i hawe.

I vill send feedback to you all about the new fan and who as happen.

Thanks

Hi all!

Nou is my computer at home again and is chrunching faster than ever :D :D
My reseller mounted 2 fans in the box and remove the old Amd- standardfan who was only 6,8 x 6,8 mm.

Instead they mounted a Zalman cpns 7700-alcu ultraquiet CPU-cooler.

-Different color options
3 LED 80 mm fan
> low speed fan at minimal noise level
> intelligent wire management
Best choise for clear cace

After that i got my PC at home but, the temp. was as before. :? :-( However, the heat air flow back the box was much lower than before. I took my PC back to the reseller and told him about the problem. How solve he my problem? Yes, he upgraded the bios because Uguru seems to failure to show the right temp.

Temp nou:

CPU: 28-29C / 82-84 F (Idle) Fan Speed: 1,800-1,860 RPM
100% working: 54 C / 129 F Fan rotation: 1,860 RPM

D20L taken 100 percent of my computers assets. Before it was 99%. 1 % to me, 99% to chrunching. I´dont know if this has change on the last time. Anyone as know about it?

This was all for this time.
The life i beautiful! \:D/

glad it is better now, both Zalmen and thermaltake are good manufactures producing quality products.
Also as you noted much quieter but still boosting fast speeds.

the 1% difference will make very little if any difference probably just where before you were loading something (or explorer.exe / iexplore took it)

where you say the thermatake fan is 3 colours - how do you have it wired up. If i remember correctly blue is normal, red when the harddrive is being used but what is the third colour ??

Hope your PC stays cool and doesnt have to go back yet again.:thumbleft:

My PC is based on an AMD64 3400. I did install a case fan as well to help keep things cool. I generally leave my system on 24x7, and it's running at 120 F, which seems OK to me.

yep as long as it stays around that you will be ok. if it got up to 140 i would start checking and if it hit 150 would upgrade either fans, case or heatsink.
is the 3400 socket 754 then as it isn't possible in 939 format.
