Just wondering if anyone had a FX8150 with the liquid cooling and if you do then what do you think of it?

I have an 8350 without the water cooling kit, but added an aftermarket water cooler. I mostly use mine to feed gpu work units on WCG. I'm not sure how the CPU performs on work units.

Please also run WuProp (nci project, non-cpu intensive thus) on that machine, so we all see how well it performs soon!
This is what is known about the FX-8350 performance so far (per core per day) (http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/results/credit.py?fabricant=AMD&type=FX-Series&modele=FX-8350&tri=projet&sort=asc)

I have an FX8150 on liquid running Win7 X64, but not the liquid kit you can buy with it, it's a waterblock and drop-in kit. I was not real happy with it when I first got it because even OC'd (4.1 Ghz) it could not keep up with a 1090T running linux. Mine is also now being used to feed a Radeon 7970, and for that the extra cores come in handy. :icon_wink:

Thanks guys, Wife gave me permission to build a couple of new puters next month and I'm just trying to decide what to build within a reasonable amount. I want either 2 quads or 2 octos, I just haven't made up my mind yet.

Hi Terry,

Take the Octo's! I will show you why next post, but it boils down to the fact that they are twice as productive -in general, not always- as the quads.
The Piledrivers run a bit cheaper than the Bulldozers and a FX-8350 is just as expensive as a FX-8150 (here).

Thanks Dirk, That's pretty much exactly what I was wanting to know since all they are going to do is set and crunch 24/7.

Ok Guys I just ordered 2 of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&PageSize=10&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&IsFeedbackTab=true&RandomID=436411731913219320130121030945

and 2 of these:

Now would someone like to suggest a motherboard? I plan on SSD's probably these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239045

Thanks for any help. I would like to have a full ATX form as I want the 4 memory slots and room for my fat fingers to work.

Ramjet and I each have one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130649

We have had decent luck with MSI so far and they have been good when we had trouble under warranty. A board like this is nice if you get into GPU crunching for things like Wold Community Grids Help Conquer Cancer project that runs on GPU. I have 3 cards in mine and in the right case may be able to get 4. If this is more then your looking to spend they have one with 2 slots for GPUs : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130677

Thanks Jason but I doubt I'll have any GPU on there that is over $15 so a different board will probably work. Just different uses. I just want to play with the OC'ing and see what I can kick out. I did look at a 1100T on amazon and thought about getting it just to play with since there is on on the Skynet project that is kicking some serious points out. I guess I'll build the 2 octos in a couple of weeks and maybe get the 1100 the next month. My son and I have been spending a lot of time offroading our Jeep Wrangler the last couple of years and now due to my health problems that is a thing of the past. Ryan now wants to peddle the Jeep and put the money into some new systems to play with. Who knows, I guess we might.

Basically you want a AMD 990 FX chipset (and preferably a not yet existant AMD 1090 FX) and as many RAM slots as possible (4) and, yes indeed: as many PCIe-16 slots as possible.
GPU projects will rocket you ahead of anybody else, if you choose the right one(s). You might, however, take the science itself into consideration. As you are into astrophysics and AMD user
I can recommend you a mobo with 4 PCIe-16 slots for two GTX 650s (or better, for Einstein) and/or two HD 7750s (or better, for MilkyWay). But watch the power requirements!
When you have enough money buy a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD7, it even has 6 PCIe slots -but you can't run all of them at x16.
Six hefty GPU's might even require two PSUs to provide the cables required to feed them....

Hello and welcome csluyuan!:hello:

Well, what seems to be the problem? Are you running Windows (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows)http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8e/Windows_8_Start_Screen.png or Linux (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux)http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/35/Tux.svg/170px-Tux.svg.png?
Best reply using 'reply with quote', as I suspect that at least one of your problems gets solved reading the code behind the pictures and links.:icon_wink:

Just spotted a potential new candidate for my next mobo -and most likely the new tennant of my Siemens-Fujitsu casing:
http://cdn2.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/A88XM-Pro-635x422.jpg
This FM2+ mobo will run with either Trinity, Richland or Kaveri, whatever you have lying around.
Combining it with a 65 Watt APU -preferably Kaveri- and a 85 Watt graphics card (class HD 7790) gives you a quiet capable GPU cruncher at a mere 150 watt
(That's far less than my half-way crashed C2Q/GTX 260 combo, which can clock 300 Watt for the both of them).

You probably run BOINC under a nickname as I couldn't find a Canadian member in our rankings with your name.
Can you tell us more about your systems and/or the projects that you are interested in?

Hola 'n Howdy, John!

I like the way you dived into the POEM team at rank#6.
That was a nice triple-back somersault plus half rotation with pike and clean entry that grabbed my attention today :)

Welcome to the forum. I hope you feel at home here :)

Hi, Dirk:

Thank you for the welcome message to which I did not yet reply as I am busy getting the FX-8350 ready for production. The installation of Linux has caused a bit of a wrinkle, but all will be resolved today (Friday, 14 June)

My System 1-

Processor: 6 core AMD Phenom II 1090T with aftermarket cooler - name forgotten (Arctic?) and I don't want to open the case
MOBO: ASUS M5A99X EVO
GPU: AMD HD 6570, HD 6670, 6970
OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I process various WCG project tasks, rosetta@home, Folding@home, POEM@home, malariacontrol.net, etc., etc. on this machine

My System 2-

Processor: 8 core AMD FX-8350 with Corsair H80i liquid cooler
MOBO: ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0
GPU: AMD HD 6570, ASUS NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti (X2)
OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I process various WCG project tasks DSFL, SN2S, etc.), Folding@home, rosetta@home, POEM@home, malariacontrol.net, GPUGrid etc., etc. on this machine

My project mix changes frequently as I want to ensure my priority projects are getting attention.

On the AMD Users Team, I am contributing results from rosetta@home, POEM@home, malariacontrol.net and boincsimap.

My user name for all is John C MacAlister

Best wishes fro m Ontario, Canada!

Hi, AMDave:

Thanks! I have been processing POEM@home since 2010. My accounts were messed up a couple of years ago and my points tally is 10.5M in total....

It will be a relief to get away from the ubiquitous Intel boosting elsewhere!

Must the the points you scored under this account (http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=userbycpid&cpid=457dcd8bb89981d3c519c6f6f77fbfa9)

If you still have the PC(s) you used then you can re-install BOINC and try to get it in sync by starting under your new id.

I look forward to hearing what you find as I am currently running my 8350 on the MSI990FXA-GD80 in windows 8. This board was giving me random reboots with the 8350 until I found a forum on the issue. Manually setting the voltage is the solution until the BIOS update shows up. I also have other machines running Linux Mint and look forward to your findings. When time permits I would like to get multiple GPU working with Mint before the next WCG GPU project.
