New app "TYCHO" for libration point mission is Go! Space Race can start!
After almost two years of productive operation of Constellation, we are proud to announce our newest application "TYCHO" one week before the second birthday of Constellation. To celebrate our birthday, our new application and the 52th anniversary of the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin (http://yurisnight.de/), we also initiated the "Space Race - Yuri's Night" on BoincStats.com (http://boincstats.com/en/stats/challenge/team/chat/363) where all your teams can join and crunch.TYCHO simulates trajectories from Earth to the libration points (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libration_point) in the rotational Earth-Moon system. Libration points are five special points where the gravitational forces and the centrifugal forces keep satellites and other masses on this point and only small forces are needed for station keeping. That's is why these points or of special interest for space applications like space stations and communication or scientific satellites. Due to this n-body attraction of the Moon and the Earth on the satellite trajectories can't be analytically solved and numerical simulations are needed. TYCHO will help to find trajectories and will start with bringing a communication satellite to the Earth-Moon libration point EML-4 that will service as a relay satellite between Earth and the far side of the Moon. This mission is part of a diploma thesis at Institute of Space Systems (IRS) of the University of Stuttgart. Further simulations to other EML points will follow. If you want to know more, here's a short report "Hotline to the Moon" by German International Broadcast channel "Deutsche Welle" about TYCHO on Youtube (http://youtu.be/cxCSV0RqVbE).You can now be part of near space mission with TrackJack and deeper space missions with TYCHO. Perhaps we will bring you even further away from Earth! So the Space Race is on and during the 12th and 15th April you can even be part of the big community of Yuri's Night events. There is even one near you and if you don't want to sit by your PC and wait you could even go to Yuri's Night Stuttgart (http://yurisnight.de/) or another Party that can be found on their website. And if you even want to do more, we're always looking for new team members with or without coding skills. Space is big, we have a place for you! And you can always donate small amounts (http://aerospaceresearch.net/constellation/donations.php) to the project.Have fun crunching!
