Found out on the news in a website about a new project coming up, BURP. It's in pre-alpha stage but seems to be working already, or at least for the few users in it so far.

See here: http://burp.boinc.dk

Right now there's only 11 teams registered.

Note that they are currently using the BOINC version 4.13 platform.

I'm trying to found a team for us but I haven't received my account joining e-mail yet. Will attempt again tomorrow.

I'll start crunching today to get ahead :P

Weird thing is that I signed in, and attached to the project on boinc, and now I'm for at least 6 hours already waiting for the workunit and application to download. They're around 8 megabytes each and coming at 0.5kb/s speed... :? Are they on modem connection at the server??
Now I know how modem users feel... urgh!!

I joined and put on 1 computer...still waiting for work to download...might get here today...is downloading at .5KBps for me also :? I did notice that their website was slow and now there are 20 teams and 192 members now so maybe BURP is just lagging a little because of the influx of new members :?:

not many porjects realise how quickly they will grow, maybe worth leaving this for a week or so - give them time to cope with the new demand.

This is one weird app for boinc....:?
Not only it opens command line windows while it processes, as it creates an empty folder on the root of c: drive with the name "Derek"...

I think I'll give this one a while before I try again :-( Gave me all the by now classic BOINC errors...yah know "computation error" , "couldn't delete this", "couldn't get that", "couldn't do that", etc.

I only got one that errored with computation error so far and am thinking if it wasn't because I tried closing the command line while it was processing...
Apart from that it only told me it hadn't enough disk space, so I made up some space on the partition, closed and reopened boinc and it worked from there on without complaints...

boinc is living up to its usual standard then

Well I agree with Empty_5oul - useless BOINC project. It is > 24 hrs since I requested a username / login at BURP and still no reply.

Anyone want to "found" the AMD Users team on this project is welcome. I'm on a 31kbps dial-up connection whilst in Melbourne so there is no way I'm waiting for an 8Mb d/l. :!:

OK, team founded. Will try it again today on 1 computer and see what happens.

Finally I got a team to join! :D

Already have about 100 credits and still crunching, but I think that workunits are almost finishing, at least by what I've been noticing on the little box on the lower left corner... the parts waiting are less and less everytime I see it...

neo you do seem to have a knack with BOINC. Its just you keeping us up in such high positions, while the rest of us can't even log in.

Maybe they'll hire me to the boinc development team someday... :P

if they do make sure before something is released it actually works - maybe that is not part of the BOINC policy though

Strange that my credits aren't joining to the team's credits... :? I have over 100 credits and our team has only 26...

It seems that the scheduler is down for maintenance and there is no work available from server :-( ...at least that is what I'm getting. Well, at least I got 1 work unit done.

I got 2 BURP tasks downloaded today on my xp2700+ BOINC estimates 7 hours to completion but the first is at 38% after 5 hours with an additional 7 hours remaining. The tasks have short expiry / timeout considering the size of them; due in 30th June ie 1½ days.

Heavy testing of the new client has begun. This session (session 131) is even more demanding the the last one. It will use about 300MB RAM and a fair amount of time to render each frame.
The new client, which also features the recently released Blender 2.37, should now record used CPU time correctly even when it has been in suspend-to-memory mode. Note: suspending on very complex sessions (like this one) may take a while - usually not more than 1 min though.
As usual the workunits will be slowly created over the next day or so to avoid complete network congestion.

I didn't get any so far...
But a workunit that takes that long will give you lots of credits :)

EDIT: After pressing boinc a little it downloaded me a couple of workunits too :P
