I think this forum will have a little new blood. It’s always the same faces that post in the forum. Sweden is known as the country of the midnight sun.

As your pic etc on the left is quite big the gap is left so the table aligns, on larger messages this is not the case.

my name on the Grid program (if that shows) is Waldo36

Just to let you know, since i see peeps asking
i just purchased a new gaming rig (still young enough to have fun, right?)

it's a AMD 64 FX-55, with an Asus A8n-SLI Deluxe mobo, and 1 gig of ram currently (going to be upgraded)... thought i would use those spare cycles to help people out tho...

used to be part of SETI@Home and decided to check what else is out there this time, and decided my new comp would run this instead... =p

its Pidgin... a messed up hawaiian/pacific islander version of the english language. "da" is well... "the". "kine" is harder to explain. if we can't remember the name of a location, for example, we simply call it "kine".

say you forget the name of the store down the street and you ask your friend to get you a taco there. we say "brah, can you get me a taco from da kine?"

or if we forgot someones name, etc. we replace it with kine. "dude, you know da kine? she was so drunk that night"

we say kine a lot. i try not to say it here on the mainland... gets people confused... haha

It's nothing Lagu, some of us are also members of Team Ninjas. It's nice to go to other forums. They, and others might take a different slant on the DC universe, it's good to get a broad picture.

TNs are also very funny on their site, they have a great games section too.

we have the same thing going on over at TN Lagu...........look at our member numbers then look at how many actually post.
And much less spying happens than you think lol. Most DC teams get along pretty well. I remember when some stupid idiot messed up AMD's web page...other teams jumped in and let AMD use thier pages till they got thiers fixed. And i know AMD would do the same for other teams.
I think alot of people just dont like to post.

Hi, just dropped in to say well.. Hi. I've been browsing the forums in the shadows from time to time, but never thought to register. I have a athlon 64 3000+, but im also expecting to get an x2 4800+ when they come out (looking to move into the dual core thing). :)

Other than that I'll pop in every now and then to see whats goin on. :P

Hello SpikeAr. Welcome to the team.

What projects are you crunching in?

I'm in SETI Boinc and Einstein Boinc.

Someone said he was glad I was helping our teams there, because he couldn't stand BOINC. Howcome? Interface, the projects, how points are calculated, or what?

gamer007
06-04-2005, 04:53 AM
I like BOINC, so far I have no problems. Except the interface always freezing when I bring it back from the task bar. Even right click freezes for about a minute.

Besides that, I like it. I'm running SETI, Predictor, Einstein and LHC.

Ototero
06-04-2005, 04:34 PM
That would be me, SpikeAr. Just not a boinc fan. Different projects running different verions of boinc, some stable, some unstable. The projects are time sliced. Errors, etc.........sorry, just not for me.

Although others think it's great. Each to their own.

Still glad to have you aboard tho.

AMDave
06-29-2005, 10:10 AM
It is provided by Bok of Free DC.
You'll need to register on their site first.
Then:

go to Bok's stats tool at Free-DC (http://www.free-dc.org/statstool.php) and update the fields with the appropriate username info or in some cases the appropriate account number(thanks vaughan).
then add the link...
http://stats.free-dc.org/tag2.php?name=xxxxxx
(where xxxxxx is replaced with your Free-DC forum alias)
...to your signature wrapped in the PHP forum "IMG" tags [ IMG ] link [ /IMG ] (without the spaces)

For your BOINC projects you will need your BOINC stats reference number (I picked up my from the BOINC Synergy stats site)

Hay guys, I'm sure this has been gone over a thousand times before but....I like many of you don't want to waste my computers time on a project which will never really do "real" science. I would like your opinions on which DC project does the most real science and will do some real good for the world. Since my father died of cancer and I have a problem which can turn cancerous I would like to know which science project I can run that is doing real cancer research, and not just some BS...any ideas???

NeoGen
08-02-2005, 05:06 AM
I can think of two right on top of my mind that are dealing with cancer, United Devices Grid and World Community Grid. (They are in someway linked together as far as I can tell...)
Not to discourage you, but it's hard to tell if the results of projects we run are or will be used for real scientific research, for now we can only hope so and wait and see after the projects are finished.

Sorry for your loss BlackAdder. This touches many hearts every day. Whilst research goes on, it seems so slowly, over time progress has been made. But it is slow and that is where distributed computing does help.

Of the cancer related projects I put most stead in FAD.

The Find a Drug project is doing current research
http://www.find-a-drug.biz/cancer-frame.html

They use the THINK engine which is behind some of the other more fancy lookin' GUIs run by some other projects. These guys and gals don't give 2 hoots about what the client looks like. They are in it for the research and the results; and yes there are real scientists on the other end building the study models and bookworming through the results. They have modules for other research teams as well. The client is available for both Windows and several variants of Linux.

Whilst I may recommend this project, I can't say that it will stop it from happening to those we have with us today. But in time it may help to slow it and reduce it. That's the best I hope for and would still be a great result.

If you need any assistance with the FAD client, just make a post in the forum. There are plenty of members capable of helping out.

Since you are dedicated to Einstein, maybe you can answer me something. Those beta applications that they have, that we have to install manually, are they any better than the regular ones? The Linux and MacOS ones speak of great speed improvements, but I don't think anyone here has tested them. I for one only have windows.

And hey, if you ever feel like trying out some other project that your team doesn't run, you can always run it for us. We got 30+ to choose from!

NeoGen- I haven't tried any E@H Beta's. I'm just standard 4.79.

I'm looking to try the optimized Seti client on a Prescott once they get back into operation to see how the use of SSE3 improves results but that's the only experimentation for now.

I think you've done a great job here assembling the DC projects and if you have any suggestions for the Prescott here in AMD world I'd appreciate them. HT P4's have been so effective on Seti but AMD's FPU runs circles around them in Einstein. I just don't know where they fit in, in the other projects.

>>How does your 900 Mhz Thunderbird overclock?

well, i've not overclocked her yet as i lack the proper cooling set-up. It's on a ABIT KT7-E RAID board, which make overclocking easy, with two on-board power connections for fans and a north bridge fan plus all the overclocking is done through BIOS :)

>>Hello outlawolf. Welcome to the team. Glad to see more people in SETI and Sztaki. Do you have any other computers crunching?

Not yet, though I'm planning on building a new machine using my dad's old 1.4 Ghtz P4. When that happens this AMD will become a dedicated cruncher and the pentium will be my work horse, but will crunch too.

The pencil trick http://www.ocmelbourne.com/tutorials/PencilTrick/ lets you change the multiplier. If you are running 9.0 x 100 = 900mhz and you do the pencil trick you'll be able to run at a higher fsb say 6 x 150 = 900mhz with the same cooling you're using now.
