Who? What? Where? When?
I am reading the RC5 site right now, hoping for a reply here sooner rather than later; so I don't sign up with wrong group :)

Thanks in advance!

Is that project still alive...? I remember hearing that the RSA 576 had already been broken by an outside group.

Oops, sorry, I'm here reading, and totally lost. lol:

Well something is happening, cause there is today's dates on this page for 'last connection':
http://stats.distributed.net/participant/plist.php?project_id=8&low=1&limit=100
From what I read at the RSA site, there is no mention of working on a unit called 72, and the 10,000$ prize is for unit 576.
Anywho. :)

Ah, I understand it now.

Yes, I've heard about those contests at RSA for quite a while. Distributed.net is the only one who has a DC project that is trying to crack them. More specifically the RC5-72

Here you got the list of contests and respective prizes for RSA
http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/node.asp?id=2093

And here are the ones for RC5
http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/node.asp?id=2103

The "RC5-72" on Distributed.net is listed on RSA Labs site as "RC5-32/12/9" which means "RC5 with 32-bit wordsize, 12 rounds, and 9*8=72-bit key" (hence the 72 on Dnet)

Thank you, yes I came upon the first link through our Topic link on left.
I am going to switch to only this project and see what comes of it.
- I will keep my face here though, as this is where I heard about RSA. !!!

and Thank You folks for quick replies :D :D :D

No problem meckano. Glad I could help. :)
I also answered quickly because I had some knowledge on this matter... in other times, when I was younger (and unconscious) I tried to devise an algorithm to break the RSA... :P

Its crunching, and seems to be about 20% / minute.
Now to put it on 98se and configure proxy into it.

Just did some checks, here are my benchmarks:

[Mar 24 03:42:49 UTC] OGR: using core #0 (GARSP 5.13-A).
[Mar 24 03:43:09 UTC] OGR: Benchmark for core #0 (GARSP 5.13-A)
0.00:00:16.71 [16,117,477 nodes/sec]

[Mar 24 03:43:42 UTC] RC5-72: Benchmark for core #6 (GO 2-pipe)
0.00:00:16.89 [8,741,463 keys/sec]

[Mar 24 03:43:51 UTC] OGR-P2: using core #0 (GARSP 5.13-A).
[Mar 24 03:44:10 UTC] OGR-P2: Benchmark for core #0 (GARSP 5.13-A)
0.00:00:16.46 [16,135,783 nodes/sec]

Edit:
98se has been setup for a bit now, it is using my proxy server just fine.
Thanks again for the quick help folks! :)
If I win the 1000$, I'll buy the beer! :D

dave looking at the RC5 stats bruce is gonna catch you by the next update -- unless your new setup has arrived lol :P

Dave, if you are watching position, then you might want to read this.
I poked through the program and found that there are 3 projects it can work on:
OGR
RC5-72
OGR-P2
- and in that order, But
I changed settings to the following to keep it on RC5-72 as much as possible:
9) Load-work precedence ==> RC5-72,OGR,OGR-P2
10) Additional buffer-level checking ==> 3
:)
(Bruce Mr.White has no work going to OGR-25, link at bottom of your stat page, where as Dave, you do!)

meckano there are other preferences you can change aswell, have a play through them. i have mine currently set to open RC5 first, and crunch this continously (ORG and P2 being at =0) then after 50 it sends results automatically.
It is a very good project and has some pretty advanced features.

meckano
03-24-2005, 08:41 PM
I looked through it, but only those i mention seemed to get me what I wanted.
The reason I left it at 0 instead of larger, like your 50, is because my computer(3200+) locks up untill the fetch/flush is done.
- my setup also keeps the fetch box full as much as possible.

I did not set the others to *=0 for work load as I don't want it idle if there are server problems.

Thank you for the info,
I'll be getting into their personal proxy if I see RC5 has down-time too much.(as far as I know, that is the money getter. OGR? I have no idea what it is.:)

Empty_5oul
03-24-2005, 09:30 PM
OGR is similar but not the same.
i also have a 3200 but mine doesnt lock up ? - what do you meen by this :?

i have never known server problems with recieving certain packets and from memory i think it has had no downtime - though the stats updates can be slow.

meckano
03-24-2005, 09:55 PM
What do I mean, hmmmm
- and happens on 98se machine too
-- which is a 2400+ on an up'ed bus speed, and crunching faster than this 2500+(setup identical to a 3200+)(2250 vs. 2200MHz)

I mean the mouse doesn't move; more like it jitters/dances a few pixels in direction i want it to go. Non responsive GUI.
All back to normal after transfer. No biggy.

Edit:
Actually it was a real pain, could last what felt like 5 minutes, if not a real 5 minutes.

Thanks for the thoughts :)
With my setup, normally sending/receiving one at a time, I don't notice it anymore.

Windows is prone for that. Certain Input/Output operations like online, or even with a cd or 3.5'' disk kinda locks the system until it is finished...

meckano
03-25-2005, 04:04 PM
Good point, writing to a floppy does lock the system , I assume to assure no errors.

Do HT(HyperThreading) systems have this same thing/problem? as to me, a true HT should be able to do both at same time.

Add:
And is it single or dual cpu dependant?

Empty_5oul

3.5'' disk kinda locks the system

you want to buy a USB pen like i have, it is so quick and easy to use. also being USB2 it is very quick transfer, mine was £20ish and holds 256mb which is more than enough. It is also one of the smallest available - if i ever find the drivers for me webcam i will post a pic

Yes I agree. I have myself a USB memory of 256 mb. Depending of what you will use it to it can be enough. I should back up my files and 256 MB was not enough. Better ta have 512 mb.

Yes, but the question is about system lock-up and floppies.

Is it possible to boot from usb disk with win98 setup disk info on it?

Lagu
03-25-2005, 10:56 PM
Meckano!

I don't think you can boot from a USB memory and have Win 98. Both you and I myself know that a boot require a floppy disc or the system CD if it is so you mean?

Aaaaaargh !

meckano.

You are taking all my high scores.
Well done BTW. LOL
They are not easy to get Hmm ?
When I have more time I will get them back.

Why don't you try someone else's for a while.

** BACK ON TOPIC **
I have found a setting for folks with computers not always connected to the net, I guess mostly if you changed the settings I did in a previous post in this thread.
7) Dialup-link detection ==> Dial-up detection ONLY mode

If you don't it tries to connect ever 5 seconds or so and robs over 10% of cpu during each of those periods.

Edit: key sequence
2-6-7,
on my win98se, 2-6-9 (i think because I have the proxy set up and must change my number of choices.

Thank you :)
I know what it is like to go down to new comer, who is also full of useful (I hope I'm useful:) info.
But I can say that being at this side of things, I am feeling more like one of the gang :D

I did that last change to my Proxy'ed computer, and it didn't detect the ethernet connection. I set up the eth0,ppp0.... part and now it goes through proxy but gets no info.
The DNETC on this computer is getting new work without problem.
:p
checking and rechecking.

Empty_5oul
03-26-2005, 05:20 PM
after trying something new or playing with the settings i would leave it overnight as a test, DNET can appear odd when settings are first changed but it will catch up and do what you originally asked.

hope you solve your conenction problems.
