well, I have been planning on upgrading my media server. though not quite yet.

If you upgrade then I will have to upgrade to be able to keep up to you. That would be one powerful media server though as long as you can get linux on it.

problem is I don't know squat about setting up linux (nor do I really want to at this time).

AMD also has the 6 core CPU out aimed at the desktop market. It looks to be getting decent reviews for its price point.
