Thanks gamer007! I'm up and running now!:icon_wink:
Hello all,
Just thought I would stop in and let you know that I have joined your team.
I am from Burlington, Iowa in the U.S.A.
I hope to get to know everyone here.
ttyl.
Welcome aboard Dr Dan :)
You'll find us a friendly bunch of geeks. Feel free to post any questions you have and don't be afraid to chip in with answers to anyone's queries.
What are you running on your computers these days?
Welcome Dr Dan,
For everyone else in AMD Users, Dan has just taken 3 number 1 spots in Boinc projects. After his 7 day noob period in the stats he will get our coveted gold sash.
Nice going mate.
Welcome to the Foray Dr. Dan.
I really do like that fantastic Avatar you have there... I feel artsy lately...
You'll find us a hardworking group in BOINC and non-BOINC projects, please be vocal in any concerns or suggestions as we usually have someone watching the forum every minute of the day!
IOWA aye, Land of Corn, Wind, and Ethanol plants....:icon_wink: :blob3:
Thanks guys for the warm welcome. To answer the 1st post I run mostly AMD's. from 3800+ to 6, 9600 black quads.. I love AMD's they rock..I am looking forward to the new generation of chips that AMD has on the horizon. btw RS gives great credits and by tomorrow AMD users should have taken the 2 place rac if I have calculated correctly..
:)Welcome Dr. Dan, sounds like you have a heck of a pharm there, we'll appreciate all the help. Just wondering if you came from another team? or crunching all my your lonesome? :) :blob3: :)
I was at seti.usa for 2 years but they seemed to become complacent on how aggressive users like myself want to run our farms. Very nice team at seti.usa but I needed a change and as I love AMD's this seemed to be the spot. But buy the way I was looking at several other teams but your team here was the 1st to notice me and welcome me after I had arrived. Kudos to this team.
This team seems to have a lot going for it so lets dominate the world..:icon_lol:
Hi from one of the non-boinc cruncher side of the team members. :)
Curious as to what you are referring to in the portion of your comment I snipped above. Are you trying to say they didn't care what you participated in rather than trying to channel the farms towards team preferred projects??
They seemed to be confused as to what they wanted to do. In my mind, a team is to work together to grasp a project and then hold it, rather than just trying to have all kinds of other projects that were not focused on any one or major projects. And when you tried to be aggressive about a project you seemed to be chastised for havening a passion to go after one. The fall back quote for every thing was crunch what you want.
I do understand that we all do this for one reason or another and you should be able to crunch what you want, but a team should have goals and to ask for support for that project that you would like to go after should be met with interest of why you would want to go after it. As I have stated before I am doing this for the fun and hobby of it.
The nice other part is that science gets help along the way..
I already wondered wether you were the Dr. Dan T. Morris I had seen in the stats before. Welcome :)
Welcome to the team Dr Dan Morris!!!
:wav:
Wow, thanks Dr. Morris for jumping us up the stats by 11+ million points across the projects! We certainly appreciate the help. I just cracked the top 10 BOINC-wide for our team, but that certainly won't last after your stats have fully switched over.
Welcome to AMD Users Dr. I hope you enjoy your stay :D
welcome aboard Dr Dan Morris
kinda curious as to what mobo's you are run 9600 BE's in
Actually I don't think the Team jumps at all from the addition of Dr. Dan's BOINC Stat's, the Credits Dr. Dan earned previous to joining the AMD Users Team stay with the Team he earned them for and don't Transfer to the AMD Users Team now that he's on it, that's simply the way the BOINC Credit System works.
Likewise any Credit he earns while on this Team stay with this Team if he ever decides to leave and join another Team in the future ... :icon_neutral:
Here is a stat I watch to see where I stand in the Team.

Hello Dr. Dan,
Welcome to the Team! A fresh face and a different point of view is always welcome.
@ Cappy You are a nut..:icon_lol: I guess thats why you are so likable.
Thanks for stopping in, and the computer...She looks right at home..
Don't forget to wax her and keep her looking good..ttyl.
Welcome Dr Dan Morris.
and, Cappy, Nice to make your aquaintance.
You will find our door is always open when you want to come in for a yarn.
So what projects are you crunching at the moment Dr?
we now have 4 Dr Dan Morris'es on boincstats :icon_lol:
Btw, is that MD or PhD?
PhD
As for projects I have had to stop the RS project as I see it has split by cpuid, so I have most of my machines (TOYS) on ABC today. I have one IBM e server running 20 projects this morning trying to correct the split cpuid. As for my normal Rac was 110,000 per day and 14,000,000 credits but the cpuid problem seems to have made a few of my projects go away for a while so the boinc stats only shows 8,000,000 credits. It would seem that the RS project running with Pearl has a weak link in its program that shuffles the cpuid. Its too bad to as the project gives great credits and has been stable.
At last count, I own and run 37 systems most of which are AMD cpu systems. Sorry about the 3 quad core q6600 go step intels..But hey got the parts at a great price.
PhD in what?
PhD in building uber crunching farms :icon_lol:
Dr Dan,
You are most welcome to our team. All our members are a valuable one so you. Your pharm seems so good and your results speaks for itself.
Glad you joined us. Feel free ask us about our project or if you ponder about DC-related things or problems.
I run Wieferich a mat project using my 3 computers. It has its own client. 1 Intel CD2 and 2 AMD:s. Yes AMD is not that bad and who know what AMD plan for the future.
Lagu:)
hay you Dr. lol stay away from ABC :P :P and talkin smack on the Q6600 too,,, gheeshhhhhhh lol. the 6600 can do a 7000k Rac on RS,, not shabby :) sry boys
but im a Intel man and always will be :) the Dr. almost built me a 9600 but i put
my order in for the Q9450 and am not sry i did :)
like i said you guys got a great guy when the Doc joined yuns,, take care of him or ill convince him to come home :P
There aren't very many of us in the upper end of the rankings that have resisted the Q6600's power. Very good bang for the buck even without overclocking. I'm looking very hard at another with the tax rebates coming.
Computer Science, Of course.
I have been working with computers since 1972.
I have also worked for companies such as AST, Compaq,Digital and Xerox.
I just can't leave them alone and they have some how got into my blood...
And for some crazy reason I keep dreaming about fortran..:icon_lol:
Must be that old Commodore 128 sneaking in..:icon_lol:
what no vic 20 ? lol
ah, another that isn't a spring chicken. :icon_mrgreen: I left uncle's employ in 73 and went to work for a publishing company taking care of their assorted computers. My toy was a dec pdp8e, paper punch, ocr, and was quite handy with some computer classes at the university as the other's had to load stuff up on punch cards. I just typed the stuff up, punched out a tape and ran my stuff before turning it in to school on the cards for grades. Was a pretty expensive toy back then too. Those were the days when the data centers were major bucks, time share and all that. I was lucky with the job I had. Spent a couple years there, then got bored and went back with uncle sugar so I could play with the good stuff again. It's been an interesting ride with the computers, the ultimate tinker toy to me. :)
Glad to see you found a new home Dr.Dan. We are going to miss you over there, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Thought I would follow Cappy's lead and say Hi! Hope to hear from you. You AMD guys are getting a good guy.
yo Dr. Dan you have MAIL at your Morris Cronicals Addy,, being i CANT PM YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grrrrrrrr lol.
Hay nice to cya Crazy :) im glad to see you came over to say Hi to the Doctor,, well done bro, well done. Glad to see someone did.
So there I was, quietly, slowly sneaking up on PoorBoy. Quiet as a mouse to not raise any suspicion - to take over 1st place from the uber-cruncher in Proteins@Home when he's distracted... I check the stats and Wack! I'm in 3rd! Arrgh!
Welcome to the party Dr. Dan T! Good to have some more help for the team.
Hello All :) warning this is a ong post lol!
I joined the rosetta@home team, and so i came here to see the community and such.
I am a proud AMD user, ive had a lot of AMD machines, all of which have served me faithfully and so i am heavily branded to AMD, and why is this??? Simply because they are solid, and yes obviosly have allways been better priced than the intels, anyhow lol AMD FOR THE WIN!
Ok , my name is Karl, i am 27 years old and i live about 5 miles away from Oxford in England, i am a pc "enthusiast" and also a herpetologist, working in a part time job...telesales but i will be changing to another line of work at some point soon :) and i have been computing since the 86's of old, lol
Currently im running boinc/rosetta on three machines, listed below
Newest machine my new baby *strokes it*
CPU - AMD athlon x 2 5000+ brisbane "black editiion" SKT AM2
RAM - 2gb generic duel channel 800fsb DDR2
MOBO - ASrockALIVEnf6g? - vsta
HD - 250 gb low end maxtor sata 2 - 8mb cache
My old machine
CPU - AMD Sempron 3100+(@1.81ghz) SKT 754
RAM - 1GB kingston ddr 400mhz
MOBO - ive forgotten the model to lazy to check :)
HD - seagate 250gb IDE 16mb cache
My other sides machine
CPU- AMD 64 3400+ SKT 939
RAM - 512mb ddr 400mhz
MOBO - MSI something or other
HD - 180gb maxtor sata1
So i should be able to crank out quite a few cycles because 2 of the machines are on most of the day:)
ok i need to tell you all what made me jump into the AMD boat with no life raft, it was that k7 that did it, i had a barton core 2500 .... 333mhz , 512 L2 cache unlocked multiplier, it sealed the doors to intel, that thing would chew up vast quantities of work with little fuss, the thing was a workhorse, the fact i had it running 2800mhz on stock components without so much as a blink
or a glitch ....i love that cpu , i will tell you the truth the k7 barton ripped the guts out of my k8 sempron in terms of performance but i actually sent it to a freind in the phillipines, and its chewing up information as we speak, so it was logic that i would choose the BE Athlon XP, in simpletons terms i just saw it as 2 bartons on one chip !
Im ashamed though to say while buying the parts for this machine i almost went intel, but then i had memories of the evil p4 i once owned, although INTEL have higher FSB and other apparant advantages i could not justify spending 70% more on a cpu that did not have an unlocked multiplier and the quality of processing i have become used to with AMD, also this simple fact...this entire machine ..just the tower cost me around £230, and its sat in a coolermaster elite 340 case, with 2x thermaltake 120mm fans and an 8 series Nvidia graphics card, 2gb duel channel ram....this machine is my dream AND it has come true, i can encode a 2hour long AVI to dvd vob files in 70/80 minuites duel pass encoded with nero vision 7.8 ultra, so what more can i say about AMD? K5 to K8 i have never had a single problem with AMD.... and remember when Duron came out against the intel celery? Well the AMD had an L2 cache and the intel did not.....down with intel down with them i say!!
Nice intro Karl. In short.....welcome to the team.
