Race 4 Stats - Finished!!

Hey guys

Sorry for the delay. This one was more difficult than the others. After a bit of trouble with the Enigma website (stats update took 12+ hours), here it is :)

I still have a few host IDs to add to the stats. Don't worry fellows, your credits will not be lost. :)

Those numbers should be outdated by now, since the update itself took over 12 hours. By the time it finished everyone is already way ahead of it. I couldn't help it, the Enigma website is very slow.

hay, this one's looking a bit more fair the the way of points being handed out, yay!

Seems to be way biased towards Windows if you ask me :( I'm only getting about 50% credit vs. claimed credit. I don't understand that one, just glad I don't run this project all the time.

finally, after two (or at least ONE) linux-leaning rounds...

is it windows leaning or intel?

I just don't know, claimed/granted seems to be all over the place.

Stats update after >10 hours of data gathering. The site is really slow, it takes on average 7 secs for each page hit, and I have to do several thousands for each stats run.

Run Liuqyn run!! :)


EDIT: Mitchell has an impressive average credit/hour! Just look at how fast he crunches his WUs... little over 10 mins each on average.

so at 38 mins a unit for me, is that the Windows/Windows-BOINC overhead?? or maybe they're just shorter units? i can't imagene he's running at 9-12ghz ;)

maybe *i* should load up linux after this just so we (i/team/project) can blow thru the small units faster...

Enigma's down right now. :( Must be a trend since around this time last night, it was down as well. Probably should increase my WU queue, now I'm stuck waiting for some more WUs...

It's online for me so that everyone can see that I'm the user of the day. Account was created at saturday and now I'm uotd.

so why is it so slow for this project? Is it just slow getting it from the network from them, or do they (enigma) generate the XML output slower than others, or is they're format different than others, that ends up causing you more work?

just curious.

I think that the enigma@homer-server is just very slow compared. It needs 3s to get the website for me. other sites only need 1s or 2s.

heh heh, good luck with that endeavor. Just a suggestion; you might have better luck/accuracy just jumping up in the air and kicking yourself in your own ass in the dual core race. :icon_twisted: :icon_wink: :rolleyes:

The 4 core race is another story. I'm getting trounced. I lost 2 days cached work with a disk failure probably due to my last weeks power problems. bummer dude :(

Its all in fun anyhow. Hey I see you have a vintage duron still running. Did you ever do the pencil mod to overclock it?

Exactly as txt.file said, the Enigma server is quite slower than any other I've seen.

I don't use the xml's, they don't provide info on the tasks. I grab the tasks pages directly. Each page hit can take between 5 and 10 seconds here, and for each stats pass I do between 5000 and 6000 page hits on their site, to pick up info on every task of yours. (I mean everyone, not just you, altough you have >1000 :))

And this morning when I woke up I found that the stats process stalled, and had to be resumed again. Must have been due to the downtime gamer mentioned. Thankfully I didn't have to start all over, just resume it from where it stopped.


It's annoying but not critical, because be it slower or faster by the end of the race I will have your final stats for sure. :)

I could overclock it in BIOS to 1600MHz (default 1200MHz) but then even the BIOS won't show up and I must reset the BIOS.

argh, why does enigma@home have to be down right when i want to connect?!

I just connected and it was ok. I even reported two finished tasks I had here.

About 38 hours to the finish line and plonk seems to be on a roll here! Mitchell had a flat tyre and should be back in the race by now, so let's see if plonk can keep the lead or will mitchell do an outstanding recovery in the last moment! :)

@plonk: turn on a optimized client. w/o you have no chance against mitchellds.

i looked at optimized clients, but didn't see an advantage with my regular projects... plus they were old, so i stopped researching it... i recognize and trust CruNcher (IIRC) from other circles, but his were among the outdated ones...

Looking at the overall stats it appears I'm better off with my trusty AMD Athlon XP 2800+ single core than either of my AMD X2 6000 or the Intel Quad 9550. :-(

Maybe I should concentrate on Dimes and see if I can fend off Beerknurds persistence. Hey Jason, how do you manage so many points per day? You must be running heaps of VMs over there at Club Beerknurd.

Yikes 12 hours... I'm not going to be able to mail the video card until next weekend... I hope the winner doesn't mind...

VM's are a little inconsistent and rather annoying. Lot's of restarts and processor consumption... It's almost not worth it. I run them for a while, catch up a bit, and then turn them off... I could load another 15 or so, but I don't have the time to manage anymore...

just FYI, i'm firing up hyperthreading at 6 am (or 7?) GMT ;) if i pull back my OC, i'll probably lose the advantage for HT, but oh well... it's for the health of my system!

Dang. I totally forgot to report my WUs before the deadline. Just reported my last few but it's 30mins too late. :( Oh well. It was a fun race! :icon_mrgreen:

Indeed... I wasn't looking at the time, but it's already past finish.

I'll let the enigma server do its work for a little while longer, and catch up if needed, and then I'll get the final stats pass running. :)

That was a challenging race. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did on this one.

me too :( wasn't going to complain, tho, but semi glad i wasn't the only one :S

now i'm just trying to figure out how to get all 8 threads utilized in boinc without reinstalling. looks like i might have to, though.

edit: fixed... but accidentally trashed the waiting units (going 32 -> 64 bit boinc)

this was an awesome race, NeoGen did really a great job in his stats. I really liked them. And you guys really pulled some credits out of your machines, it was cool to watch.
But somhow i shot my Computer in the past few days of the race....:( All the devices i have installed decided not to talk to each other any more.... so randomly each of them gives me a BSOD(have to figure out whats going on there and who ruined the sozial climate in my machine :icon_wink:)
Nevertheless i am really looking forward to the final stats.

Yup I agree, it was alot of fun. I have some more idea's for races a bit later.

Here I am, with the final stats for Race 4!! :) (already uploaded)

Congrats to mitchell for making it to the top spot on 4-cores, even with a few "flat tires" while running. In the 2-cores section he grabbed the prize too, but that race was smooth.

And on the 1-core section the congrats go to Liuqyn, who smoked the competition, winning with a confortable margin to the second placed racer. This competition was good to show that some older rigs are still good for crunching. :)

Congrats to Mitchellds and Liuqyn, I tried my best to keep up in this race, but you guys were too fast for me. This was a fun race watching the lead change from day to day really makes it exciting. Also, a BIG CONGRATS to NeoGen for all the hard work organizing the race and posting all the stats and results......Can't wait for the next one already. :icon_wink: :blob3:

thanks, just shows what advantage intels have on this project, my little 2ghz p4 shouldn't have done that well. but I'm glad it did so I could break up your dominating performance in the singles race...
