This sure sounds like good news to the high end gamers :)
From efficiency point of view our next mobos should be Quad SuperMicro's with four 16-core Opteron Opteron 6262 HE.
They need just 65(ACP)-85(TDP) Watt for those 16 cores. You can fill the mobo's with 512 Gb RAM (ECC Registered, Oké),
and it has a PCI-E (16) slot, so with a DDR3 HD 6670 it costs next to nothing to crunch 64 CPU WUs, 64 FreeHALs, 1 WuProp,
and -with the aid of a smart app_inbfo.xml- two GPU WUs= 131 processes at a time!
If I start saving now I may get enough money for a setup like that by the time CPUs have 64 cores instead of 16, and then a 4-socket mobo would yield 256 cores :icon_lol:
or wait for them to upgrade and buy the 16 core pulls that end up on ebay
Our Hong-Kong based members can already collect Quad 16-cores via ebay (saves $180 on the shipping)
you do know these are 4 quad cores (16), not 4 - 16 core (64)...
Argh! You are right. Still an impressive machine, but not so much as I thought it was.
AMDHorus can keep his/her money in his/her pockets.
You can say "HIS".
Horus was the son of the goddess Isis. The god of sky, war and hunting and conqueror of Set.
The story about his conception is a little bit deviant. :icon_mrgreen:
(Horus, that is, not AMDHorus. Otherwise he'd be running around smiting people and keeping today's journalists very busy indeed :icon_razz: )
i'll just hold out for cheap Trinitys and stack them on paper trays like S Starbuck ;)
Cheap Trinitys, so wait another 3 years?
Speaking about Trinity:
- When will it launch?
- Does it really need a FM2 board?
- Can it really use up to 2133 Mhz DDR3 without overclocking?
- Does it have a HD 76xx inside? or a HD 69xx? No kidding, read that on NordicHardware
When? 2Q2012 (A8 5500 and 5600, A10 5700 and 5800) 3Q2012 (A4 5300, A6 5400)
FM2 only? Yes, Trinity is a 904 pin CPU and uses a different pin-out as compared to the 905-pin Llano. The difference is subtle, but it is there.
Up to 2133? unclear, but very likely as Llano already can be set to use that memory-speed in overclock settings
On board Graphics: A10 HD 7660D, A8 HD 7560D, A6 HD 7540D, A4 7480D

Looking good those projections! Now I just wish they would come out twice as fast and cost only half of their usual ridiculous initial launch day cost. :)
EDIT: Yea... I know... not gonna happen :icon_razz:
