2015 BOINC Pentathlon run by Seti Germany

    Hi Vaughan, hi AMD Users,

once again, SETI.Germany invites all BOINC teams to the *BOINC Pentathlon*. For the sixth time, the winner is battled out in five disciplines at five projects *between May 5 and May 19*.

After the introduction of Marathon and Sprint in the last couple of years, there will be a new discipline in this year, again. Details will be announced prior to the beginning of the Pentathlon, for now I can reveal that it will run for at least five days at a CPU project.

You may suggest one GPU project and three CPU projects, please see http://www.seti-germany.de/boinc_pen...sciplines.html for details.

All information is available on the Pentathlon page at http://www.seti-germany.de/boinc_pen...n_Welcome.html, while you can find the answers to many questions at http://www.seti-germany.de/boinc_pen...27_en_FAQ.html.

Looking forward to seeing you again at the Pentathlon!

    Regards
    pschoefer

I will enter the team for this event but I need your recommendations for the 1 GPU project and the 3 CPU projects.

It is important to note this:

The projects with the largest number of suggestions will be crunched – except for those projects which

were chosen in last year's Pentathlon (theSkyNet POGS, Collatz Conjecture, Rosetta@home, Enigma@Home, POEM@HOME)
can't provide a sufficient number of workunits
support just a few operating systems
    require specific hardware (e.g. sensors)
    use a buggy application
don't offer the creation of new accounts
    don't support WebRPC

To keep this process as transparent as possible, we'll publish the suggestions of every team when announcing the final CPU project and the GPU project.

Well... I think the question is, after examining the "7 commandments" of project choosing... how many (and which?) projects are there left?

Seti... Primegrid... Yoyo... Moowrap... anything else?

Some rules are a bit vague to say the least... for example, how many are "just a few operating systems"?... or what constitutes a "buggy application"?
There could be a lot of debate over the interpretation of those rules, but for speeding up this process I throw my 4 above listed projects as my quick vote. Primegrid for GPU, the others CPU.

    1. Marathon a 14 day CPU event
The project for this disciplin can't be chosen
    2. Sprint a 3 day CPU event
FiND, provided that you do not run it on all cores its WUs are very short
    3. *Surprise* a 5 day CPU event
      NFS
    4. City Run a 5 day CPU event
      WCG
    5. Cross Country a 5 day GPU event
      (project has GPU applications)
      • Asteroids@home
pays really sh#t, I personally see no use for this GPU application and always run this project with CPU
      • Einstein@Home
memory hog with present OpenCL applications, favours CUDA on most recent nVidia cards
      • GPUGRID
(almost) nVidia only, takes too long
      • MilkyWay@home
      • Moo! Wrapper
my personal favorite, because it runs on HD 6670s and Llano APUs
      • PrimeGrid
      • SETI@home
        pays sh#t

We are now registered, awaiting affirmation by their Admin.

    EDIT:
Confirmation of our team's registration received.

Time to fine-tune your machines ready for 5 May blastoff.

I guess we're going OK in this Pentathlon but we could have some more team members join in. More the merrier as the saying goes.

We're doing well in WCG -thanks to Jason/Ramjet- and reasonably in Yoyo -mainly thanks to vaughan-.
We more or less failed in Malariacontrol and Einstein, but not for the lack of trying. Other teams were just bigger/more active in this Pentathlon events.
We get another chance tonight in the three-day LHC@Home 1.0 sprint event.
Thirteen members active at the start, led by Zd. We're doing 500 credits/hour at the moment, but I already got a list of 'pending' (61) that is almost as large as my 'in progress' (80).
