my college network is run by monkeys with half a brain. out top speed is about 5 kb a second for downloading and it can take 5 min for a web page at peak times. it is impossible to explain how bad it is but i would rather have a 56k modem!!!!
they sent out a an email saying
"While the virus will usually not spread outside of the
building where it originates, the traffic they generate
invades the entire network, making all access slow to a
crawl. Symptoms include web pages that time out and
general slowness that affects on and off-campus resources"
and said that the reason it was noticed was the high bandwith that was being used by the dorm. they said that my room was infected and i know for sure that i dont have a virus.
the kicker is that i run grub and dimes 24/7 and downloaded over 4 Gb of files off of ares over the week. they are so dumb that they think that viruses are the root of all evil.
