    March 2016 competitions

    Still a bit quiet at the March front, only four challenges, three of them form Crunchers sans frontières...


    February 29 to March 07 - End of February
    GPU Users Group wants to use the last day of February to have fun with Seti@Home and adds the first week of March for free.

    March 01 to March 05 - CRUNCHATHLON PG [MONTHLY RUN - RACE I]
    This challenge issued by the french team CRUNCHERS SANS FRONTIERES will take place every month at varying dates for four days. All teams are welcome Let us take forward the PrimeGrid project ! Keep crunching primes (or not ;) !

    March 10 to March 14 - CRUNCHATHLON GPUGRID [MONTHLY RUN - RACE XIX]
    For the GPU heavies: Crunchers sans frontières have their monthly GPUGrid challenge. Used to be nVidia Double Precision only, but there's now an OpenCL CPU application too. And they have an AMD GPU application....for Windows only.

    Don't forget the PrimeGrid Wall-Sun-Sun challenge on at the moment.

    AMD Users are 7th out of 13 teams so far.

    I will allocate the AMD-Asus-Linux and Intel-Asus-Windows to the task, skipper!
    Just finished two PSP-LLRs for the Crunchathlon PG

    Now that my electric bill has arrived i'll have to sit out several races :P

    Yes the power bills tend to put a dampener on our hobby. My wife found out our electricity bill is several thousand dollars for the Summer quarter so I copped a blast and a stern "You're paying that!"

    Its been a long hot summer here with unrelenting days over 30C and nights above 20C even this far into March, bring on Winter.

    That's why I try to push you to solar power...If the house where I am living in was my own, I'd install a -four times the usual size- solar installation
    (as my power bill is four times as high as those of my neighbours).

    I have just under 6000 watts on my garage with a 10 year double buyback rate ( They pay me 25 cents/KWH for my solar, and I pay 12 cents for what I use ) and in winter that isn't near enough. In summer I run a lot less puters as to not fight the AC, and sometimes I get a check back from the power company. I use less electricity, but the longer days and more direct sun also attribute to the money back.

    I hope to finish another SoB within 55 hours...just dropped a Cn/CUL and a 321, and there's Wn/WOO on its way too...
