    An annual reminder for Vaughan

This is Vaughan's annual reminder post:
You are another year older :P
This time 1 year ago you were on holiday. I hope you are getting some R&R again and people are being nice to you.
    Happy Birthday!

I'm a day late to the party but Happy belated birthday Vaughan! Don't worry, 60 is the new 40, it's when you really stop caring and start having fun! Hope you had a blast!

Did you get any shiny new toys for your birthday? New servers... SSDs... processors... RAM... or something like that?

Yes but we are still waiting on Ebay to deliver the mobo. RAM and CPUs arrived last week.

I also got one of these to join the wifi scales I got for Christmas.

    Yes ... building this week.

SuperMicro X10DRI dual socket LGA2011 Intel C612 DDR4 eATX server motherboard arrived today. It took 5 days to clear Australian Customs.

And what Xeons will populate the board? The Xeon E5-2600 v4 family goes up to 22 cores per CPU at the moment....
I guess the Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 (the 22-core) is out of our league -financially-, but two of those puppy's would give 44 real cores and 88 threads per mobo...
The cheapest 18-core does around 4,500 Euros here, 16-cores are hardly any cheaper (N.B.: 16-core Opterons come from 600 Euro to 1,000 Euro...)

Using a pair of Xeon E5-2630 V3 CPUs. They have AVX2 and FMA3 so should be useful at LLR'ing at PrimeGrid. Trying them out on SRBase today and got hyperthreading turned on so 16 real plus 16 virtual cores crunching.

Machine currently has 32GB DDR4 RAM (2x 16 sticks). Have to see if it gets sluggish due to low RAM when I run 123numbers on it.

My son is going to install the NVidia drivers and add a GPU at some stage. This mobo can take 3 GPUs but I don't think the case has enough cooling to expel the heat if we have 3 so may stick with 1 GPU. No room in case for watercooling as its in the server rack cabinet.
