    June 2016 Competitions

June has arrived, and so has summer (on the northern hempisphere). Cooling problems may begin for us northerners... We kick off with a major effort: The BOINC Pentathlon, the only challenge with an AMD CPU hidden in its name. The French team CRUNCHERS SANS FRONTIERES takes it from there with their monthly challenges.

    June 05 to June 19 - 7th BOINC Pentathlon
The BOINC Pentathlon is an innovative cross-project competition for teams in the BOINC world and runs for two weeks. Various skills of the teams are tested.
    • Mobilization: who recruits the most active crunchers in the own team for the Pentathlon?
    • Communication: which team arranges the best strategy and tactics?
    • Strategy: clever resource sharing in terms of the overall stats or concentration on few disciplines?
    • Flexibility: who copes best with different requirements of the projects (e.g., CPU vs GPU) and reacts fastest to the announcement of the projects?
    • Tactics: which team manages fast project switching best?

For the GPU heavies: Crunchers sans frontières have their monthly GPUGrid challenge. Used to be nVidia Double Precision CUDA only, but there's now an OpenCL CPU application too. And they have an AMD GPU application....for Windows only.

Interesting how your June intro starts.
We might be having a warmer winter here than your summer is going to be.
We just broke half a dozen records greater than 100 years for May, with a heck of a lot more over 50 and 20, and the trend is continuing into June so far.

(Check the temp records broken about half way down the page)
Having said that, at least the nights are cooler.
We had a temp-swing of almost 30 degrees the other day between night min and day max.
    Thats nutz.
We are still at 80-90% drought declared as we have been for a few years.

Maybe in a few years the will be a desert here - where we "used to" live.
Perhaps the movie Mad Max really was more prediction, less story.

Getting back to the point ... there was a point!? hahaha yes
One of my GPUs was cooking on PG and stopped working this morning so I had to pull it off the project and it won't be participating.
I'm having to watch the others very closely.
May have to go into time-shedding to work in the cooler hours at night time.
    Stupid climate-change winters. BAH.
