BOLERO+, CHRONOS and PROSURFER. New BOINC projects.

Look at this site http://distributedcomputing.info/ap-...tml#boleroplus there is a short description of these projects.

The official site of these projects is http://www.cellcomputing.net/ but unfortunately, for now, it's written only in japanese.

    Happy crounching!

I had seen these about a month ago, and alerted our admins on them. After much struggling with online translators I managed to get myself registered.
Seeing that it was complicated to work with them, not only because it was in japanese, but also because it was using a custom version of boinc (these projects don't run on normal boincs), there wasn't much interest in it, so I was granted by the admins an authorization to create our team there, with only myself for the time being.

    And here it is:
    http://www.cellcomputing.net/simple/...eam.php?id=138

I tried to run it, and even managed to submit a couple dozens of workunits at first, but strangely I was never granted credit for all but two or three that were lightning fast to crunch, and therefore, not much credit awarded. So, after crunching almost 100 hours of workunits I was awarded a staggering 1.45 credits... :?

Then there was an update to their custom boinc version, from v1.0.7 to 1.0.8, and since then I haven't managed to run it anymore. Downloading workunits goes as fast as 0.3kbytes/sec and in the end they are verified and are always marked corrupt.

    So I gave up...
Maybe when there's a new version of their custom boinc I'll give it a try again...

If anyone is crazy enough to want to try it, I'll be happy to give a few pointers of what I know... registration, client instalation/usage, etc... just ask me.

p.s - The last I heard about it, the prosurfer project was over already. Now it's only Bolero+ and Chronos. There was a fourth project, Elecle, that has ended too already.

    News update

Cell computing ported their custom boinc to java... so now it runs on windows/mac/linux seamlessly.
They also set up the Chronos project to work with the new java boinc, and it's not all that slow as I thought it would be (or maybe the workunits are smaller...)

Anyone who wants to give it a spin, just has to have the registration, and download the java app on the link below:
    http://www.cellcomputing.net/simple/...download_1.php
The same boinc id string used for the other projects works for this java one. Just have to put the new url for the java Chronos (https://cell.cellcomputing.net/jachronos/) along with the boinc string when the java boinc asks at runtime and you're done.
