B450 is 2 + 2 + 6 for USB, at least per Gigabyte via Forbes

    edit: and Anandtech

That's Gigabyte's choice, and Anand copying that. AMD thinks otherwise.

    Asrock B450M Pro4:
    2 USB 3.1 Gen2 (Rear Type-A+C)
    6 USB 3.1 Gen1 (2 Front, 4 Rear)
    6 USB 2.0 (4 Front, 2 Rear)

P.S.: Forbes and Anand didn't do their homework: they only look at USB 3.1 I/O panel connectors and forget 4 USB 3.1 ports on the motherboard
    Chipset:
1 x USB Type-C™ port on the back panel, with USB 3.1 Gen 2 support
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port (red) on the back panel
2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports available through the internal USB header
4 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports available through the internal USB headers
    CPU:
4 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on the back panel -Forbes and Anand may have left this out because it is not a feature of the chipset itself, but of the populated board. In that case my homework remark is not right.
Either way, they leave out four USB 3.1 ports

Big question is now: will there be a A420 chipset?

The SFF chipsets have by now finally been spotted: A sub-model of a Lenovo IdeaCentre 720 desktop seems to be fitted with the B300 chipset.
    Will there be a X400, A400 and B400 too?

are the 300s even worth it for a non B2B/mass production prebuilt boardmaker? i'm guessing the chipset nearly insignificant compared to all the other components with B320 and the seemingly lowest possible board price of $50

Compared to olden days the chipset has become a sort of glorified I/O hub in order of capabilities
    • X470
    • X370
    • B450
    • B350
    • A320
    • X300
    • B300
    • A300

i was thinking more *cost* of the chipset. it doesn't look like a/b300 will drop $3-5 off the price of an A320

You'd have to ask Lenovo why they choose for the B300 chipset over the A320 for part of their desktop line, but the SFF form factor of the mobos may have something to do with it
