So you wanted a Ryzen Threadripper system...
Along with the Ryzen desktop CPU series AMD brought out a line of HEDT-CPUs, initially on the TR4 Socket.
This served for two generations of Threadrippers, so the best CPU upgrade possible would be the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX -if you can find it.
It was followed by two sockets, one for enthusiasts (sTRX4) and one for workstations (sWRX8). The enthusiast have the Ryzen Threadripper 3900X as their best upgrade option -if they can find it.
The sWRX8 socket served two generations of Threadripper Pro CPUs, and the 64-core Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX might even be called an affordable upgrade for what it offers -you can buy it here for 1140 Euro's, a tenth(!) of the price of a Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX.
The later 5000 Pro and 7000 series Threadrippers (one new Socket sTR5, but board chipset-wise split into one for enthusiasts (TRX50) and one for workstations (sWRX90)) do not score very well on the threads for money scale, but if that is no problem: the ultimate Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX will offer you 192 threads from a single CPU.
