    Security System...help needed

not sure what forum to post in but here goes. ok, here's the deal. i'm in charge(i don't know why) of setting up security cameras in our shop, which must be accessible via the 'Net. we have a 4 camera system that comes with its own monitor with 4 input jacks for the cameras, and it also has video/sound out.

so, i know i need to get a video card with TV in. we have a couple of older comps, but not sure if they are powerful enough(PII 450).will the video stream ok uploading the video using a computer this small?

also, we have website, but i have no idea how to stream the video feed to the website, but would also like it hidden/password protected on the site.all input/advice appreciated.

I don't have a clue on how, but I don't think that computer can handle that much... not only it will have to be receiving and maybe recording a live feed to hard drive, as well as it will have to simoultaneously be a server broadcasting that same live feed...

I just did a search on google... check these out:

I tried doing that a while back with a webcam so I could watch things going on at another locations and finally resorted to still pictures on my website that were updated every 3 seconds. Live streaming video seemed to be pretty hard.

i have tested one of these -
i cant find a good link but the pico 2000 does exactly what you want. (http://www.zorg.org/homeauto/pico2000.shtml)

you get a card with it holding up to 4 cameras, 4 cards max. per computer (so 16 cameras). From this you can record etc. or stream direct to the web and watch on any other machine - with a very limitied lag. THe quality is fairly good and you set the resolutions so this can be in or decreased.
to view it online you go to th webpage and login as with a username and password.

it worked well for us and the software was fairly good.
