    We may get acknowledged!

    From the Evolution@Home forums...

    Hi,

The latest highscores are available under http://www.evolutionary-research.net...TimeTop20.html for CPU-time. Combined with the old results that is almost 80 years of CPU time.

Currently I am revising the manuscript reporting the first biological results and the top contributing groups will be mentioned in the acknowledgements.

    Thanks for your contributions.

    Laurence Loewe
We are in 5th place in total CPU time. (4th if you do not count with the anonymous people group)

We may get acknowledgement for our contribution to the project, on the thesis that Mr. Loewe is producing based on the results of this project so far! :D

p.s. - Shame on us that don't even have a forum section for this project... :P

Well... it's a bit more complicated than that... :P

There is no account creation actually. You download the client off the website, and on the first time you run it, you'll have to insert all the data like username, team, website, etc... That info is stored on a file so subsequent runs of the client will know who you are.

Well, I better just leave here some pointers, and if you get curious about it, ask away and I'll be happy to help out.
Be warned tough that this project is complicated to run, requires some babysitting, and runs on a command line client, with few capabilities yet... and checkpointing ain't one of them.

    Here is the website:
    http://www.evolutionary-research.net/index.html

    You get the client here:
    http://www.evolutionary-research.net...5download.html
(There is a GUI created by an external individual to the project, but I don't use it, so I can't recommend it.)

Here you have three links to run files tables (workunits)
    http://www.evolutionary-research.net...les/index.html
You can pick and download whichever runfile you prefer, but take in account how much ram memory it'll take, and how long it may take... remember that there's no checkpointing.

You put the runfile in the same folder of the client, and let it run until it closes itself off.
Remember that the first time you run it will be for registering yourself.

p.s. - Last but not least... stats are only presented about once a month... you only get to see how much you crunched away at each stats update. They got fixed dates for it on the mainpage. Next update will be on August 29th only.

EDIT: Forgot to mention... results files are sent back to the project admins by email. The client has no file transfer capability yet.

I ran it once on the P4 2.66 notebook but it was too convoluted to be bothered with. It needs someone with (1) patience and (2) dedication to running that project. In my opinion, there are plenty of other DC projects that need less brain power to work out how to setup them up, run them, report the data and present the statistics.

I remember some time ago you mentioned they had a thread on the automation of their client.
How is that coming along ?
Do they need help testing ?

    That's me.
Although I've been running it only a minimum each month just to show some increase on the stats. I'm way more into boinc.

@AMDave: I asked on the forums some time ago but Laurence doesn't want to give out details of how progress is going with the new client.
He said that for now taking this publication off his desk was his priority.
