Opteron 240 succesfullyoverclocked to 1.61 GHZ!!

Wow, i manually overclocked my opteron 240 to 1.61 GHZ (by raising FSB speed) unluckily multiplier is locked, but still, i got it up .21 GHZ. Windows loads 2 seconds faster and it's still stable :D!! Guess it's not too good, on;y 1.61. So now my FSB is 229 and my Multiplier is 7. I can go up to 233 FSB speed but decided this was good enough for now ;)( i'm still usingthe heatsinks that came with my mobo)

this is weird and i'd like to know if it is cause to my overclocking: SETI@HOME says it can't connect to the servers, RSAttack576 says bad authentication, and GAIM can't run, it says windows error. Is all this just a quincidince? WINDDOWS STARTS FINE, all other programs so far run fine... and WINDOW MEDIA PLAYER says "an internal application error has occured!"

    Windows may not like overclock

    Matrix_Fan,
I have had similar results with overclocking. The best luck I have had is on Windows XP, this OS seems to tolerate it the best. I tried to overclock the EXACT same hardware - processor -memory - motherboard, etc with Windows 2000, and it wouldnt even boot. My Win98 computer would boot overclocked, but generated weird Windows errors, including Seti@home locking up, and not being able to report. The luck you will have vaires from system to system. I have 2 systems overclocked, and 2 that I have to run at OEM spec. 8O

Sometimes just loading windows ok doesn't mean it's all running good. Is the temperature on the processor too high?
Have you tried testing for stability with Prime95? I found out that I couldn't overclock my computer when I ran Prime95. It always reported error in the calculations after 10 to 15 minutes. The cpu temperature went way too high and caused flaws in the calculations. But every other program ran fine. I guess I need to get a good cooling system. But until then, I'm not overvlocking mine.

Nah, you didn't fry your chip. Worst case is something could have gotten corrupted but if it never locked up that doesn't seem likely either. If you have un-overclocked it and still does, not sure.

mm good news, RSAttack is working now, and SETI@Home, i'll download the packets, overclock and then start them up to go faster, seem like a ok idea?

Definately run Prime95 for a few hours. Run the tortue test. You can find it under the download section.
