What Kind of a cruncher am I???

I see that AMD Users run a bunch of projects with not so much of a direction in mind.

Now when new projects come on-board it appears to me that a short list of peoples jump to those projects. Which is not a bad thing.

I think the intentions are good. But if we are just getting our name on the board and not doing any concerted effort towards that project the other projects suffer.(In my opinion)
To others it looks like we are just trying to get our name on every project.

I think it would be nice to try to get all our projects in the Top 30 and then move them from there.

With that said, I was wondering what drives someone to run the projects in the first place.

Is it "Personal" I am interested in a specific project for personal reasons or a Personal interest.

Is it "The Science" I am a closet Scientist and or have I high aptituded to understand the Nitty Gritty of crunching the numbers and or how the numbers are crunched.

Is it "The Team" I will work whatever project necessary to get Amd Users Into the Top teams.

My vote goes for the Team.

If I had one project that I really really liked, it was Pirates, and that one is already out of commision.
So I wander around several projects for a few reasons...
1 - I don't have a "pet project" no more (no project has fascinated me so much as Pirates up to today)
2 - I get bored running the same project for too long.
3 - my computing power is among the lowest around here, which in turn means that my contribution to already established projects is in most cases almost neglectible, so the best use for my cpu cycles to help the team is to push up in the new projects we got. More members join our projects and Team if our rankings are high, and in a startup project I can give my share of help on that. Once those projects get themselves established among us, alot of powerful members enter and my rank drops like a rock, but by then I'll be helping out someplace else because new projects come out often.

Look at message@Home. If in two weeks from now I'm still in first place it'll be a miracle. :P

I would have to say a combination of personal and the team.

Personal because I'm interested in those projects and what scientific, cryptographic etc. thing they are doing (ie, SETI, searching for aliens).

The team because I support the team. Whenever I can, I'll try to switch to a priority project. Even tho I only have one computer running project(s) ( :cry: ) I'll do what it takes to get the team up.

I'll admit I seem to have BOINC projects as a pet. I just like how they work with one client and such, making it eaiser to run more than one project.

PS: Is there any priority project(s)? I'll switch to it when I can. If not, I'll just stay w/ message@home.

I would have to say the team. I normally try to run the projects that are our main focus at the time. I like running the priority projects due to the competition.

Hello

I’m both a personal and a team cruncher. First, I run D20L alone, then change to folding@home but, my AMD don’t like this project. It took nearly a week to run a WU. After that, I join DPAD and run it a short period. Then back to D2OL (using my both computers) because it is so simply to download and run, and is a project for help peoples in the future. It is fascinating to see how the team and I myself can advance and how our concurrent are coming for stomp us. I give a reaction from a few members to take one of their computers and run D2OL to defence this old project that many have crunch for years. But, this week I change to the Russian project using my old Athlon 1001, 350 MHz because I wish to see how we should be ranked when teams is allowed. Also, Russia is not long away from Sweden. Boot countries have long before been in war to each other and our King died in this war and many countrymen died for the Russian military power. I can’t hate them for that. I think it was in the 17th century. My faster AMD64 3200+ continues to run D2OL. Project like SETI is nothing I will run. I don’t think there is another “peoples” far from our planet. Of course, I wish to se our members stay longer in a project but, I have learn from the forum that we will have fun when we is crunching, not have a press to do what other is saying. The choice will come from our selves’ spontaneity.
