    New computer, New project

I am happy to say my house's new computer is up and running. We are the proud owners of a 3 Ghtz P4 Prescott (HT enabled). Yeh yeh, i know, AMD users... I tryed convince my brother to get an AMD, but its technically not my computer, so i didnt get a choice. He wanted pentium! anyway, its now crunching for Einstein, Seti, and ClimatePrediction, and man does it crunch (at least compared to my 900 Mhtz T-Bird) and runs hot (as hot as my Thunderbird) at a toasty 65 Celsius. But never fear, my new computer is coming soon, and it will be AMD! I also got my key for PrimeGrid today, after what felt like months of waiting.

    65 Celsius?

And I get worried when my Athlon XP 2000+ reaches 55C... LOL

    Anyways, good on you outlawolf!
Altough we sponsor AMD's I know that alot of people got Intels sneaked in the closet

Just kidding. :P Intels are also great, especially in maths projects. I wonder if SZTAKI, being a math project, got any benefit from intels?

    Yes, NeoGen.

My AMD Athlon 1100Mhz reaches 66ºC at zero load! I think the processor is damaged.

neo - possibly, but with it being run via BOINC it is AMD :D . The best way to compare them is to get a few people with AMD (various processors) and pent's to post how long a WU took.

    e.g.
AMD XP 3200+ windows XP 1 gig ram (running on idle machine)-

    22/09/2005 19:49:05|SZTAKI Desktop Grid|Starting result f467d440-32f8-4db0-aeea-06521c31b3c5_3 using search version 4.21

    22/09/2005 21:02:21|SZTAKI Desktop Grid|Computation for result f467d440-32f8-4db0-aeea-06521c31b3c5_3 finished
    took: 01:13:16

as far as i know this will work as all WU within SZTAKI are exactly the same size, always take virtually same time anyway and have same predicted time.

Yes, my AMD 3300+ runs faster in Boinc than my P4 3.4 does. My Dual Core 2.8 is only out producing it by only a little bit........

    Sztaki workunit comparison:

AMD 3300+ 1 WU takes about 2 hours.
P4 3.4 1 WU takes 2.5 hours. ( But It is processing 2 WU's at the same time with HT )
Dual Core P4 2.8 takes about 2.5 hours for a WU (But it processes 2 in that time)
P3 733 takes over 9 hours per WU
Centrino Laptop 1.6 says 1 hour and 45 minutes... (Must be a smaller WU)
