Welcome :D
Yeehaa, another 5.
Note to ~LorD NicroN~, in my stats, those little tildas in your name were a bit difficult to process, so, if you don't mind, in the stats, I took them out.

Thanks Guys! I guess most of you are guys...me? I'm a granny!Originally Posted by Ototero

I know enough about pc's to insert a card etc...but won't do the 'DOS' as I still call it!
I'm getting a fair few red messages in the BBC climate change project...something to do with the wrong date being set...so they keep saying a may not get credited...but it looks to me that I have been!
I take it I will just have to run with what I have and try to fix it (aka 'get someone else to fix it') when my little bit has finished?
Welcome Pattenden :D
The BBC project is one hard project for people starting with Distributed Computing, I'll say... Most of us started with the mythical Seti@Home. (Trying to find aliens...)
Say... would you like to put up your vote on our age poll? It's (more or less) showing the demographics of our team. Look here:

And yep, I think we are 99% guys here, I don't know why... other teams seem to have several female members, but ours is very rare. Maybe AMD's and women don't get along very well?![]()

Oh dear, not only do I age the group, I make it both sexes too!![]()
Oh well, I won't tell if you don't! ;)
I'm number 19 on the grid, does that mean there are 18 faster AMDs?
Hi Pattenden,
Welcome aboard!
In answer to your question on grid position. Grid position is based on the amount of credits you have accumulated and the average amount of credits you receive. Having more computers chugging away would give a user an advantage as would faster systems. I myself have a fairly fast AMD workstation and an old snail of a computer doing the BBC experiment, both together give me a fairly respectable score although it seems like everyone is catching up on me fast now!
Just Neil_2 joined us today. Nice to have you with us.
I'm a bit dim re these credits...I imagine they are virtual pats on the back and not a tangible entity?
There's no monetary value to them  ...but the way the internet is growing, with regards to 'pay per use' and subscriptions, I'm sure it won't be long before someone creates a software platform for distributed computing that pays the users for the use of their CPU cycles!
Now there's a thought! ;)
