Several years ago there was a study that pointed out that, at current rate, if the great microprocessor manufacturers didn't do something about it, in some 50 years or so we would be running cpu's that would heat up to thousands of degrees celsius and need power stations of their own just to run!

At least AMD has been paying attention to that problem :P
