    7800GT graphics cards

I might be in the market for an nVidia 7800GT 256 MB PCI-express graphics card soon.

Anybody have experience with these? What's a good brand? What to avoid?

Prefer SLI capable as will probably add a 2nd card at a later date.

It will be used for World of Warcraft on an A64-3500.

Not sure that the extra $$s for the GTX is worth it considering the rate of "new" cards coming out. Also the GTXs will need a new power supply as the current one is an Antec 480W.

I remember, only a few months ago, when the ATI X800 Pro was top of the line. Now its an also-ran.

Hi there. I just upgraded from an X800 Pro to the 7800 GT from BFG. On WOW I was able to run with the settings maxed and AA/AF at 1280x1024 even with my X800 Pro. I upgraded so I could play F.E.A.R. and will have to say I am very impressed so far. I also have some GeForce 4s and an FX5700 all from PNY that were total crap and 3 of them failed completely and the FX needed a new fan on it. The BFG 7800 seems like a quality product and I think nVidia has gotten their act together. The drivers only use about 2 Meg. of RAM vs the behemoths ATI has with that new Control Console. I picked up my 7800 for $299 on sale at a local store. In 3DMark05 the numbers are roughly:

    9800 Pro=2200
    X800 Pro=4900
    7800 GT =7000

From what I have seen and heard the GTX will get you a score of about 7800. Not worth the money in my opinion especially if your going to get another for SLI.

    Thanks for the reply Keith.

I have RMA'd one of the Leadtek WinFast PX6600GT TDH 128MB cards from the SLI set-up. In the meantime I'll research more cards.
