Bored with Boinc'ing?

Are you tired of running Boinc? Bored with projects that start off great but fizzle out with a wimper after only a few months?

I'd like to encourage everyone to try some of the Math projects.

Consider the Prime Sierpinski Project. NeoGen has created a guide on how to set it up and get crunching. NeoGen's how to is here:

You choose to run the Sieving component or the search for Prime Numbers component.

As an alternative consider the RieselSieve Project. BryanRS has created a guide on how to set it up and get crunching. Bryan's how to is here:

AMDs perform really well at sieving, either PSP or RS.
Intel P4s are very poor at sieving but great at LLR or PRP'ing.
AMDs perform really well at both LLR'ing and PRP'ing.

Personally, I'm moving a couple of PCs over to these projects as I want to see AMD Users "really make a difference".

Yep, we can make a difference!

Brucifer alone made a huge difference for the PSP project. If we had a few more "Brucifers" we'd solve that project and find all the primes in no time! ;)

Remember everyone that the names of the finders of primes are recorded in history! You can show your children and grandchildren in the future "I found that prime number!"

I think really at this point in time, the math project to help is the PSP project, and within that, the sieving effort. There is a real need for some short term help here. We are trying to get the sieving up to the 80G point, where then the project can do a merge on some crunching with the Seventeen or Bust project. So at that point, anyone crunching would be helping two projects at the same time. With some help, we should be able to reach the merge point in a couple of months.

From a team perspective, AMD_Users has pretty much taken control of the sieving push to get to the merge point, while Free-DC has taken the lead in the llrnet/prp effort.

If you have multiple AMD computers, and could spare one of them for a couple of months on PSP sieving, it would really be sincerely appreciated. I push participation in the PSP effort over sieving for RieselSieve at this point in time purely from the perspective of helping PSP reach the point to be able to proceed in conjuction with SOB. I am also a very heavy siever for the RieselSieve project. However I have stopped rieselsieving until we get the psp effort to the merge point goal.

There are people here to help you get started if you need the help. I utilize linux as my OS, and can help any linux user that would like to help. Vaughan, Carlos, neogen and others use the windows OS.

If you are new to this team, and haven't committed to a project yet, would you please consider giving the PSP sieving project a helping hand for a couple of months???

I suppose you last line refers to AMDs 64 machines. Well, I disagree with you. I still think it's a waste of time doing PRP with AMD 64 machines, just compare a P4 3.0Ghz with an AMD 64 3000+.
You can add that P3 are also good at sieving.

Thanks for the correction Carlos. I'm running Athlon XPs for sieving duties and P4s on PRP / LLR work. My A64 is busy playing WoW or maintaining my Ubero rank from rbachetto :shock:
