    Speech Interview

Hey everyone! How is the go going? Well I am taking a public speaking class this semester and for this week we have to interview someone. I thought it would be pretty sweet to interview some of my teammates here @AMD Users.

I actually already did a speech about you guys before. :D I tried to recruit some of my classmates, but i think i lost them when i said "intel tried to take the front-side-bus to the duel, but they got stuck in bottle-neck." They all did agree that the logo is pure SwEEtNeSS though.

So i have to ask you guys ten original questions. If you guys can think of a better question or want to say more stuff then feel free to do so. This should bring us all closer together :D

My student intern lady is well, she is DEEP, not the cool Einstein deep but the boring chick flick flavor. Read this "It may be their life story or a simple anecdote that captures the essence of their character and moral fiber."

    Alright, so...
I am real procrastinator, can you tell? :D

    1. Where are you from/born?
    2. Tell me about your family, sisters/brothers sons/daughters
    3. Your hobbies/interests
    4. Your job
    5. Your education
    6. When did you first get involved in DC'ing?
    7. When did you join AMD users?
    8. Worst fear
    9. Favorite food
    10. Favorite sport
Do you have any good anecdotes (Short stories about yourself)? Funny/Uplifting/Embarassing/Sad

Alrighty then! Let the bonding commence.

    1. Where are you from/born?
I'm from Portugal, Europe, but more than that I'm a citizen of the World!
    2. Tell me about your family, sisters/brothers sons/daughters
Ohhh... I could be here all day and night just answering this... summing it up, I'm young, single and available (ok, let's not go that way...:P), got 3 sisters and 2 brothers, and yet I'm only son because all of them are of other marriages between my parents and other people. (Before and after I was born). I live with my dad, stepmother and younger sister (daughter of my stepmother and my dad). My mom passed away nearly two years ago, victim of cancer, due to having smoked plenty almost all her life. Because 4 of my 5 siblings are older than me, I already got a bundle of nephews and nieces (6 to be more precise) which makes me feel kinda old...
    3. Your hobbies/interests
Besides the usual things like, watching movies, playing soccer, hanging out with friends, and etc, I very much like to take a shot at the impossible things. The challenge and the fact people say "it is nearly impossible" or "it can't be done", fuels something inside me that makes me wanna give it a shot. Therefore I have my personal studies on the RSA challenge, the EFF challenge, very large prime numbers, the "Euromillions" lottery, among others...
    4. Your job
Don't have one right now. I'm on college taking IT engineering.
    5. Your education
High school finished (and college graduation underway)
    6. When did you first get involved in DC'ing?
It must have been around the end of 2002 or start of 2003... I don't know what I was searching on the internet by then but I stumbled across the mythical SETI@Home (the classical) and "fell in love" with it.
    7. When did you join AMD users?
According to the forums database, Oct 28, 2003. I had found the site some months before when searching for stuff related to AMD. It seemed like a really cool team, and they were on DC'ing far more than I thought possible. I only knew SETI and a couple of others, but in this site I found there were many other DC projects (and far more worthy than SETI, but that's another question...) So, after a few months of lingering as a visitor, I finally took the courage and registered and joined in. I can't tell if this still happens, but at the time I was kind of afraid to join because there was always that thing against newbies on the internet, but these guys here were always friendly and supportive.
    8. Worst fear
Geez... I don't know... umm... spiders (and other disgusting bugs in general), heights... and I think that's it. Can't remember of any other genuine fears right now...
    9. Favorite food
Like Garfield, I love Lasagna! :D Italian food in general is my favorite. Chinese has also some good dishes. Sadly I can't think of any Portuguese dishes that I really like... oh well, you know what they say... "The neighbour's chicken is always better than mine."
    10. Favorite sport
That would be soccer, which I'm not a fanatic fan, but I really enjoy to watch and play with my friends. Basketball is also very cool and my mom played basketball when she was young. Way before I was born, so I never got to see her playing, but her team won the national championships several times so I believe she was a darn good player at it.
Do you have any good anecdotes (Short stories about yourself)? Funny/Uplifting/Embarassing/Sad
My mom used to say I was always quite inventive... she said that when I was little, and wasn't being watched, I once got my hands on the ironing board, placed it against a couch, and made of it my own personal slider at home. Would go up the couch and slide down the board onto the floor. (Needless to say that the board didn't sustain my weight many times and ended up breaking in two :P)
I also studied physics when I didn't even know how to read yet... I was told that when I was little, I once started playing with an elastic rubber band, and it was funny to throw stuff in the air with it. Eventually I gathered that pens had the most "arrow-like" shape so they were the better projectiles to use. So I picked up my felt pens of all colors and made them my ammo. I started slinging them upwards to see how high I could reach, and some even hit the ceiling. Now the detail that I haven't told you is that for aerodynamics sake I took out the caps of all pens, before throwing them up in the air... Imagine how the ceiling got after a while... (Yep... full of little colored dots)
I think my parents must have been amused by these studies of mine when I was little, because they never gave me any harsh punishments... they only explained me that I shouldn't do these things. :P

Hi, I hope this helps you :D :D

    1) I was born in Richmond, Virginia in June 1956 and I live now in Louisa, Virginia , I have been here since 1983.

    2) I was adopted at 3 months of age, I was not told this until I was 18. In my adopted family I have one brother and one sister, both of them are at least 10 years older than me.In my birth family which I found when I was 35 I have an older sister ( 11 months older ) a younger sister, half brother and sister. In my adopted family my father died when I was 12, (cancer) my mother died when I was 17(stomach ulcers). I know my birth mother, and my older sister and one half sister, the rest I have never found yet. I have been married for the second time since 1982, have one son 22 and one daughter 24, he is a senior in college and she has graduated from college.

    3) My hobbies....well I drag raced Kawasaki H2's for 7 years, I won 3 track championships :D , and was runner up for 3 years also with one 4th. During that time I ran a motorcycle repair shop at home and also modified motorcycle engines for street and racing, I am a two stroke engine expert and ported many two and four stroke cylinders and heads, some of my motors even found their way to Japan.I now run a Tool Repair buisness at the local Nuclear plant and try to get work off the internet but with limited sucess.Since neither of these made enough money to do them full time I guess they are considered hobbies. Of course I also love computers.

    4) I am a licensed Electrician (32 years ) at a crane factory(5 years ), I work in the panel shop building control panels for the cranes we build. I am also working at the Nuclear plant now repairing tools nights and weekends.

    5) I finished High school, and went to techincal school for 3 years to get my journeyman's card.

    6) I first started running Seti classic in 2001!!

    7) I joined AMD Users last summer, I was a member of Team Virginia Tech since 2001. They did not have an active web site so since I use only AMD processors this team was a logical choise.

    8) Fear ??? thats easy .... growing old...I'm 49 now , always in some sort of pain from arthritis and a motorcycle accident I had in the 70's...I fear my quality of life getting worse the older I get.I'm not crippeled or anything but I just hurt all the time. My meds make life bearable :D

    9) Food...I love a good steak!!!

    10) Sport...I really don't have a favorite sport.

11)Funny story...well when I was little my parents (I was adopted remember) would tell me that I was born in the back seat of a Taxi cab.Well after I found my birth mother I asked her about this saying my parents had...well as it turned out she was still single living with her grandmother who owned a nursing home, when it was time to go to the hospital she said she called a cab and said she didn't remember if I came while she was waiting on the curb for the cab or while in transit to the hospital ...Damn as it turned out I think my parents little story was right after all!!! My wife says she probably dropped me on my head while standing there waiting for the cab. Since I was her second child and they birth much easier that may have happened too. :D

Well I hope that helps!!! i

    1) I was born in Dover, UK. 7 miles from where our family live in Deal. My career took me all over the UK but I came to Deal to live.

    2) I'm the eldest of 4, 1 brother and 2 sisters. My mum and dad divorced over 25 years ago, but they are still friends. I am also divorced but I remarried 10 years ago and am still very happy. If it wasn't for my sons being born, the family name would have died out, and I mean died out world wide.

    3) I enjoy family history and have been creating our tree for about 8 years now. Fixing computers is also good fun. I've been crunching data for triathlon races here in the UK. Check out my web site www.tri-results.co.uk

    4) I'm an IT consultant, mostly mainframes, Cobol, JCL etc.

    5) I did an extra year at school to get more exams Then 3 years at college before going to univerity at Exeter to study electronic engineering.

    6) I guess I've been DC'ing for 15 year, and yes it was Seti Classic. I didn't join any team. Just did it for myself. Then I started Grid Org and eventually Ubero.

    7) Carlos found me crunching in Ubero and persuaded me to join AMD Users.

    8) Dying without explaining all my financial affairs to my wife. She would really find it very difficult. She is from the Phillipines, by the way.

    9) Chinese, Japanese, Thai, virtually anything except curries.

    10) I love Formula 1 motor racing, I'm addicted Table tennis is pretty good to. I played in our towns 1st division for years. Won a few trophies too!

When I was 16, I started Judo, it was my 3rd week in class, the 3rd dan instructor picked me to fight at the end of class. I was a pretty strong lad then. Anyway, I wrestled him to the floor, climbed on his back with my hands around his tunic around his neck strangling him. Within a few seconds, there was a tap on the floor indicating his surrender. As I let go, he flipped me and forced my surrender. When I asked him why he hadn't stopped after I had won, he whispered to me, "the ref didn't see it". I was so disgusted at his dishonourable action, I never went again.

    7. When did you join AMD users?

TBH I wouldn't class myself as a full member. My main bulk of DC'ing goes to Team Phoenix Rising, it's only my Reisel Seive stuff that AMD gets. But I browse the forums cos you guys are friendly people so I stay...so I guess you can call me a member if you like... So personnally I'd say from when I upload my first Riesel sieve result...

    1) Born in California, USA. But not raised there.

    2) Got family, I can rent them out, cheap!

    3) Taking flying lessons for full pilot single engine VFR in a Cessna 172. Enjoy computers and surfing the web for science, engineering and technology advancements and information. Enjoy reading sci-fi and fantasy books. I've read thousands of books. Enjoy dirt bike riding during the warm/dry months. I also enjoy travelling the USA countryside.

    4) I am a Maintenance Planner/Scheduler for Alcoa. I used to write game software in GSL (a proprietary language developed by Simutronics for their own products {http://www.play.net/gs4/new.asp - as GM Romulus <Guru of Sorcery> if you're interested]) - for six years. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I was a Nuclear Missile Technician on the USS John C. Calhoun (SSBN 630 Gold crew). Grew up as a country boy farm hand - way back whenever.

    5) Some college (3 years), but mostly self-taught. I started going back to school just today to persue my degree.

    6) Got started in DC'ing on 21 Feb 2006.

    7) Joined AMD Users just a few weeks ago: 8 March 06 I think.

    8) Dying slowly while poor and helpless in some stinking low class old-folks home. (When you get to be my age you fear such things)

    9) A damn good Black Angus steak: medium rare, spiced with salt and medium hot peppers sautee'd with mushrooms. Add garlic-flavored mashed potatoes with chives, sour cream and real butter. Add in a few hot buttered honey rolls and plenty of cold milk you got a meal! (sorry guys, some of us used-to be-alkies cannot drink da brew)

    10) Involves me, a member of the female gender that I find attractive, a lot of time on our hands and the rest is none of your business...
