10x to 20x and some cases 100x to 1000x faster performance!!
Mitro take note! :D
I've just been reading up on a coprocessor that slots directly into a spare Opteron socket. It then utilises the HyperTransport to direct requests and it is specifically for 2-way or above Opteron motherboards. Apparently they only use 10-20watts per socket as well but can give you anything between 10 to 20x the performance and if the application is optimized can give 100x to 1000x performance increase!
Obviously you would need to reprogram BOINC and possibly WUs to utilise it but what a great idea...
Have a read here, clever stuff...

...and now the bad part, "Each DRC module will cost around $4,500 this year and likely drop to around $3,000 next year"

Right... All I need is some a few 8-way Opty boards, a few dozen 285s, a handful of these $4500 do-hickies, then I need to take over all the Boinc projects and recode the whole deal. I'll get right on it. And which bank should I rob?
