    AM2 officially released

There are a number of articles around the web. I found this one at XbitLabs informative:

    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...ocket-am2.html

To me its good news because it really doesn't outperform its socket 939 counterparts by much which means I won't have to go buy a new CPU/mobo/RAM.

Unfortunately I don't know much about DDR2 so I'm not sure how much faster RAM than you can get than DDR800 with 4-4-4 timings, but I know there a lot of DDR that can get more bandwidth than DDR400 with 2-2-2 timings.

    So who's gonna upgrade?

Whoa? I thought it comes out on 06/06/06 (Gasp! The # of the beast!, no I'm not religious). Well, that's what everyone says (even Wikipedia). 3DGuru also has a review of the new nForce 590 SLI with AM2.

As for upgrades, I was hoping to get an AM2 mobo/cpu, but my dad had to make me get his Pentium 4. Sigh, guess I'll have to wait until next year, but AMD plans on a new generation of CPUs then according to CNet. I'll find link.

EDIT: I don't know the differences between DDR and DDR2 except by the looks of high clock speeds. Heck, DDR3 is planning to come out next year or the year after. Technology changes so fast!

From what I understand from reading tom's hardware and guru3d's reviews(2 of my most favorite sites ever!) http://www.guru3d.com/article/mainboard/348/ http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/...nvents_itself/
This new socket won't really shine until ddr2 can get lower rates like 3 and lower. I personally won't ever upgrade to am2...waiting for socket F myself :P
Google socket F for more info(I can't remember the links >.>)

I love the preview for SLI 590! :D
Too bad they do not have a similar board for non-SLI (Ultra is nowhere close to 590), I am really opposed to the idea of SLI/Xfire (cuz it's lame, gimme dual-core gpu or something, but none of this dual-card take-up-all-space-and-all-the-power bs). :\
Still going to wait till next year for any upgrades. Right now AM2 and all the cool features in 590 do not justify upgrading due to little increase in performance.
By then AMD will have (hopefully) moved to 65nm and will have a new line of CPUs and conroe will definitely be out with its successors. That's gonna be fun! :D
    Kickin' it hard!

It's gonna be fun when AMD K8L series comes out late next year/early 2008.

The sockets for Rev.G will be the same as the Rev.F but they will use a few different pins. More of a benefit for AMD's fabrication than anything else but it does allow them to agressively release some juicy new processors over the next two years!

    Woah, RevG looks kewl :D
I like the coprocessor idea, especially the vector co-processor.
It would also be amazingly useful for BOINC. ;)
