I was a long time nVidia fan until I bought my 9800 Pro and the only thing I can say is that I wouldn't ever go back to them unless and until they have the best image quality. To me that is more important than speed which is a close second.

ATI maybe fine for windows but is a waste of money on a linux system. Their driver are total garbge. I was thinking about swapping an ATI card in place of my Nvidia and was over at rage3d and there was a thread about linux and ati drivers and someone posted a benchmark from a 9800 running glx_gears they got 1000 fps just to put this in perspective I get 1250fps with a gf2 gts. next time I upgrade cards I'm not going to get a top of the line card it's just going to be something in the $100-150 price range and not ATI.

Well, even on Windows I was very skeptical about ATIs drivers but after having it now they seem to be pretty darned good. Actually I have had less trouble with them than on another XP machine with a GF4TI4400. Someday I will have to try Linux. I am just hoping the longer I wait the better it will get.

Yea it's getting better all the time. It's wierd after using linux for a few years I find it easier in some ways than windows. I think where most people have a hard time is they try to use both on a day to day basis it's amazing how fast you can learn if you soley use linux for 6 months.

I can definitely say I love OSX and think it is much easier to use than windows but it all comes down to the games and they all seem to be tied to Windows. I did see an interesting thing on Tom's Hardware the other day about switching to Linux and it had a program that would let you run an amazing number of games on linux.

wineX. There are more games for linux than there used to be. One thing that I thought about is put linux on a playstation2. It has daamn good fpu way better than opteron. The only dc client that I know of that will run on platstation is dnet.

I would be interested to hear how the ps2 performs compared to a regular pc!
Generally I like ATI products better than nvidia even though I am running an NForce 2 board. After seeing the benchmarks on the new Nvidia card... it is just freaking amazing at 1600x1200!!! I hope ATI comes out with something that can compete!
It will be interesting in the coming months!
