    Buying a new computer

You as have bought a computer from Newegg how is it with the warmth/hot in the case? Any problem when for example the motherboard got to hot? Have you been forced install auxiliary fans?

I bonder buy an Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo Pa1113 AMD 3800+ dual core 2,4 GB, 2024 GB Memory.

    Specifications:
    • Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 399

Why buy a brand name instead of a "white box"?

He may not know how to build a PC, or he may not have time...

Vaughan, what will you say really? "White Box" is unknown for me.
The cause to why is I have a reseller in Sundsvall as build computers but he has so little to choose among. Sundsvall isn´t Sydney or New york unfortunately.

In reality I don´t like brand names. I should like to buy one local. You can watch this link from Sundsvall: http://www.shidas.com/

Tell me lather if he if he has a good cruncher to sell.

And if you not know I´m not used to build a new computer. I have newer tried it and I have no friend as can help me if I got problems. Among deaf peoples here no none can build a computer self.

All those machines are great but have way unnecessary things for crunching, like huge hard drives, and sound systems... could you ask the guy from that shop to build you a custom machine?
If he accepted, we would give you a list of good components (processor, memory, motherboard, etc...) for you to show him and he build you the machine with those components.

    Lagu,

For $1,100 you can build a 5200+. Putting together a computer is so easy anymore that you should try it. It's almost down to slot A into slot B as the real work is getting the parts that are all compatible and I'm sure that the people here will help you with that. The 5200+ is a super overclocker that will give anything a run for it's money. Stock it should run 2200 to 2500 points in Tanpaku daily.

    Lagu,
By "white box" I mean a generic or not a name brand computer. As the others have posted putting together a computer from parts is pretty straightforward. The motherboard manuals with ASUS or Gigabyte m/b are very easy to follow.

Work out what you want this new computer to do.

If it is just for crunching you can get by with on-board graphics or a low end (cheap) PCI express card. On board sound is included in all motherbaords. A fast HDD eg a SATA drive is easy to install and has small cables to improve within case airflow. Buy a reasonable case, power supply and good RAM (the type will be determined by your motherboard eg the older style DDR or the newer DDR2 (the standard now with AM2 or Core 2 Duo boards). Add a copy of Windows as this gives better BOINC stats than Linux. Use your existing KVM so you don't have the expense of a monitor, keyboard and mouse and also use your existing network switch or hub to your broadband connection. Motherboards these days have on-board LAN so these just plug in to your hub via an ethernet cable.

    Dear mates!

Thank you all and my apologies for not replying to you all but I got a large headache today and have most been sleeping but now I’m OK.

I will tell I have prayed AMDave to configure a computer to me from Shidas. He accepted this challenge and use InterTran and wrote on Swedish to me to me. I’m very grateful for his kindness. But he told me he wished there should be more to choose among. I replied this guy have too little customers and had reduce his assortment. The cause why I prayed him was the fact I was unsure how mush I should choose of all as is needed to a computer. I will show it here and I hope AMDave understand why.

There are some parts as I’m unsure about and my purpose is you guys will help me change make or save parts as you find acceptable. Especially the MOBO is not the best. I have read comments on Newegg’s page and there I have found MOBO´s as is better and faster.

    Here is the spec:

    CPU AMD64 3800+ 939 $204,95
    MOBO ASUS A8N5X 939 $136,17
    RAM 512 Mb DDR 400 MHz $94,91
    CPU-FAN Artic-cooling fan for AMD socket 939 $26,13
HDD Seagate 80 GB 2 Mb cache ATA $81,15
    DVD-RW NEC-4570A Dual-layer -/+ 16X+ Nero $102,47
    CASE Standardchassi with 420 W $48,14
(supply inclusive extra 80 mm fan)
    OS Win XP Pro $223,46
    Mouse Logitesch Optical mouse $21,87
KYBRD Logitesch ultra Extra keyboard $39,72
    Total: $979

I know I can get it cheaper but I will support this guy. He needs money for food and roof over his head. When I have got all parts from you I well go to him and ask if he will build a computer using the parts as you all have choose.

I perhaps should have USB too and more ram. 2024 Mb cost $355 and Athlon 64 4200+ $328. Is memory not cheap today? May be I could replace 3800 with 4200.

    Lagu,

Take a look at this list and see what you thing as far as a pure cruncher goes.

    https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...asp?ID=3521872

    And this Power Supply

    Thermaltake W0093RU ATX 12V 2.0 Version 500W Power Supply - Retail

The case is a dream to work on and has 3 fans for cooling, the mem is top notch, and I can't see a better bank for my buck than the 4800+, this MoBo is the one I use and is easy to OC it does all the work.
