    It is likely the icon cache is too small, so the icon refresh has eventually failed. It is not an uncommon problem, so there is a common fix for it:

    Install and run Tweak UI for WinXP.
    Click the "Repair" link, then in the right pane of Tweak UI,
    Click on the pull-down and choose "Rebuild Icons".
    Click "Repair Now", then "OK" to close the dialog box.
    <paraphrased from malektips>

    PS - silly thing is this happens in 95,98,ME and XP. Never seen it happen in Win2K, though. Anyone know if this is fixed in Vista?

    XP did an update that removed the identity of each icon marker. You may have to do what I did and go into the properties of each icon and replace the picture you had in the past. It is a pain in the ASS but it was my only choice or I could have uninstalled the XP update.

    There is another way of deleting the icon cache without Tweak UI.

    I cant for the life of me remember what it is. Something in Documents and Settings..Hidden by default.

    Mine wasn't affected by the MS update...Whenever I restart after a MS update, Super Tango Patcher jumps in and updates the files so I can carry on using my GNOME theme on Windows
