Hardware Temps
Does any-1 here have a (WD-160GB / 8MB Cache -SATA) HDD?
The reason I ask is because this drive runs hot (107-111) compared to my (WD-250 / 16MB Cache) that runs a pretty steady (73) with the exact same cooling.... In fact they are both cooled by the same 120mm fan....
The OS used to be on the 160 but now I just use it to back up my Music/Pic’s & Vid’s...
I’d just like to know what kind of temps you Guy’s or Girl’s R getting???
Also, I’m currently running a Opteron 146 2.0GHz 1MBL2 “OC’d” to 2.3GHz with a FX-55 HS&F
after about 30HR’s under a full load I keeping a steady (107)...
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and you will have a Happy New Year...

I've seen my little old 60Gb drive reach temps like that in the summer at times when I was making heavy disk activity. It's a Seagate, but don't know the exact model.
A temp difference like that is odd though... you should double check the air flow inside the machine case. Where it comes in, where it goes out, and if hot air from the cpu or gpu passes by the hard drive in question.

I'd also check your RAM usage. If you are running out of ram for your applications your HDD may be being used for swap files. That can get pretty disk read/write intensive.

As odd as this may sound I keep the Drives on my desk... I'm always doing something to it so I just keep the side off... I'm one of those people that just can't leave well enough alone...

On the norm I run 1GB of ram like I am now and I'm running D2OL continuasly
while doing other things and I haven't seen my ram drop below 488MB...
I keep a pretty healthy pagefile (on the 250) and have turned off the system restore for all drives except the 250Gig the OS is on... I guess I just got a bad-1 or it was a bad design from jump street, on the norm I'm a Seagate guy other then these and a few WD-Raptors... Anyway, thanks guy's and HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

BY having the side off the cooling air flow is interrupted. You need to place the cover back on the side of the machine to adequately cool each and every device. The Case is designed to use the perforations in the case to allow air to flow a certain way to cool those items you see which are getting hot.
Problem solved

I have 5 HDD's 2 Sata and 3 IDE, 3 are in the case 2 are outside the case.
The drive in question is now outside the case alonge with the 250. It was in the case with the side on a HDD cooler mounted to the bottem with and without a 80mm fan behind it... Also the 250 is mounted in the same cage with the 160 and the 250 has never run hot... Now don't get me wrong the drive has never failed me in any way, I just don't understand why it runs so much hotter then all the other drives... Anyway, thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR...

I am a problem solver, so I have taken this dilemma on as a challenge to find either a cure or we both can toss the bugger in the lake if she fails!

LOL
... That's what I was saying it's just one of those things that make you go Hemmm...
I'm just beginning to believe it's a (although it's never failed me) bad 1... Trust me, I put a premium on cooling my system and I've tried everything short of water cooling it... Anyway don't beat your brains out over it I was just wondering if anybody else had 1 of these drives or had heard they run hot... Thanks again...

I had heard the "run hot" and I like WD drives so I stayed with the 3Gb drives I have 9 of them and they all do very well. They are just a good cheap drive, and I use them in all the machines that are only crunching.
