Unhappy Electricity woes & my last WU's

It appears that electricity costs have finally taken their toll and is forcing me to stop DC'ing. We recieved an electricity bill of £300 ($600) today and it means our whole family are going to have to make cut backs.

This means that from this day forward my machines are cleaning out the remainder of WU's assigned to them and being shutdown.

I will keep my BOINC's installed in case i ever decide to run for a while but it'll never be like it was before (24/7)

I hope you have enjoyed me being part of the AMD User's team and will be glad to crunch for this team again, should the time come.

    Best Regards
    Evil-Dragon (Matthew)

    That £300 a quarter?

Thats fairly steep. 4 of us in this house and we've paid a quarter bill of £200.

    Good luck anyhow

Sad to see you go buddy, take it easy.

NVM - a mixture of non-renewable (coal) & renewable (wind), nuclear and gas-to-energy (landfill)

My combined gas and electric comes to £300 a quarter. It keeps rising every year.

You'll be a great loss to the crunching community, especially AMD Users.

If you ever have a machine turned on, pop in and say hello.

Coal, Gas (As in from North Sea), Nuclear,Renewable... Mainly in that order I do believe.

The landfill option is fairly rare..
Mind when I'm at home in Devon, theres a fair few renewable options about..Wind power (mainly Cornwall), tidal power (huge underwater turbine off the coast of Lynmouth), farmyard waste (burning cow sh*t to produce heat for the water..smell around the place is a bit iffy ), renewable burning (fast growing wood etc) and geothermal. Not bad for a little county

Every bird must go to roost sometime. Hope to see you back soon.

Reminds me of the early on-line days - paying $6.00 per hour to be online and long distance phone fees. I knew many with significant debits to Master Card and Lord Visa.

Best wishes to you. I totally understand where you are at.

While we pay monthly where I live in the US, my equiv quarterly bill varies from US $925 to $1175 a quarter depending on the time of year. The electrical rate keeps increasing here, along with all the constant additions in utility taxes. So for people that are really in to the computer scene, it is becoming rather expensive to play.

I saw a tagline on one of my 4x4 bbs forums that went to the effect of:
Putting money into jeeps is like doing crack..... it takes an intervention to quit both. I think this distributed computing thing is in the same category.

Good luck to you and take care. Been nice crunching with you!
