I am going to go look at the local Puter Store in about 30 minutes.. I am a processor short of a new system. The CompUSA right by my house is closing and everything is 30% off. I'll see what I can do....
Depends on the sale going but I may have 2.... Crosses fingers...

I just bought a pair of Opteron 2216 cpus to build a four core system. Now I'm in search of a decent socket F motherboard and memory. Hopefully within a week, I'll have this up and running.
Well i'm off to the store... Wish me luck!!!!
Here are some stats:
30% of the total workspace has been completed.
TBP is only 12,000 uploads behind us. Thank goodness we have the beta points.
In the last 28 days they have almost doubled our output (100,530 to 51,515).
In the last 28 days, both teams have crunched 65% of the WU's. Overall, both teams have crunched 45%.
Using the new updated 65% of total WU's, we need to garner 50.1% of 1,040,287.3 WU's which is ~521,183. We currently have 112,787 so that leaves ~408,396 to go. At 5,000/day that leaves ~82 days (EDIT: with yesterday's overall rate, there's only ~79 days left for the entire project). TBP is currently 18.35 days behind us.
At 10,000/day we are ~41 days away from guaranteeing first place.
15,000/day is ~27 days
20,000/day is ~21 days
Holding on to first has just become much more difficult. Instead of backing down, TBP continues to push on and increase their output. Fortunately for us, most of our original PI members remain committed. Also, a few more of our top 50 are participating. Many thanks to EVERYONE!!!
Good News...this is still a defensive effort on our part. We have yet to go on the offensive. In reserve we still have over 1000+ cores just in our top 50 that we can pull from. That's 50,000/day additional WU's we can do. So, should the time come when we "really" need to go on the offensive, we'll be ready.
What would be nice is to have that additional 20 cores so we can just stay even with TBP. That way it won't be necessary to go on the offensive and we can keep the bulk of our power elsewhere.
Keep up the good work everyone!

I'd like to see the 1000 cores come on stream now.
After that maybe Blueberry will back off. But then again, they might ramp it up some more.
Oh well. This is all good fun.
Darkness isn't there, but you can't see through it
Hmmmm...if our 1000+ core reserve comes on line now and TBP ramps up to match it, there'd only be 10 days left in this project.![]()
I'm already working on our next ramp-up. I've recruited another half-dozen new PI eaters and a couple of those are putting out over 200 WUs per day to start. We're now at over 6000 WUs per day total.
The real question, gentleman, is how long you can keep this up? Terry just informed me that Jianan is wanting to extend the project to the 2-year length. If that happens, how long can you afford to keep yourselves focused on PI Segment and doing less elsewhere? We have concerted efforts going to take or keep 1st place in several projects at the same time. I'm just the most vocal because we have a long haul to overtake you.
Another thing to think about is the poor PI Segment server. We're working the tail off the poor thing. Can it handle the load, and a potential 50% or greater increase?
Yes, this all in good fun.![]()
