Thread: Team Catching up Update

Hmmmm...if our 1000+ core reserve comes on line now and TBP ramps up to match it, there'd only be 10 days left in this project.

Ok, that was the biggest waste of time and gas... Hardware was 5% off. That doesn't even cover the tax. Just for giggles I looked at the OEM computers... Their "BIG BLOWOUT SPECIAL" "THIS IS THE LAST UNIT IN STOCK!!!! (Floor model) They had a 4200+ with 1GB of RAM $620.00.

I asked the guy if they were going to go any lower, he said definitely not. Any remaining merchandise after close will be shipped to other stores. I am super disappointed....

Thats a very good writeup, but I'm curios about the "Good New" section. Where are the 1000+ cores that you refer to? If they have not yet already been committed, how can you say that they could be commited and are held in reserve?

I'm of the opinion that we should throw everything we have at it now, to chew up the rest of the available wu's instead of holding things in reserve.

Are CompUSA going under? The store near me in San Bernadino closes this week too.

We had one close in St. Louis a month ago. From what I saw when I was in there the prices were out of sight and their for sale systems were terrible. The only thing I ever bought there was a tube of Arctic Silver 5.

I think most of the stores are closing. Their prices are horrible. Even their closeout prices are crap...

Guess they won't be getting any of my money... I guess I'll just keep on saving for that 6000+ chip or a Intel Quad Core....

I'll have an X2 4800 online today...that just leaves 16 more cores to break even.

No kidding. I was under the impression that the team needed all the help it could get, so I've been pulling cores from projects I consider far more important to humanity (D2OL and Proteins) to help the team lock in a first place. I've been taking the risk of catching hell at work for this by borging other people's work computers. While I've seen some heavy hitters on the AMD team who are still crunching other projects I figure that is their choice, but if I'm not really needed on the Pi Segment project because some members have some massive reserve of cores I'd be more than happy to move my equipment back to the important projects.

Despite what the liberal media would have everyone think, some of us know the difference between "want" and "need". Now, do you "want" help, or, do you "need" help?

I have no idea where these 1000 cores are but I'd sure like to see a few of them.

After that maybe Blueberry will back off. But then again, they might ramp it up some more.
Oh well. This is all good fun.
I'm already working on our next ramp-up. I've recruited another half-dozen new PI eaters and a couple of those are putting out over 200 WUs per day to start. We're now at over 6000 WUs per day total.

The real question, gentleman, is how long you can keep this up? Terry just informed me that Jianan is wanting to extend the project to the 2-year length. If that happens, how long can you afford to keep yourselves focused on PI Segment and doing less elsewhere? We have concerted efforts going to take or keep 1st place in several projects at the same time. I'm just the most vocal because we have a long haul to overtake you.

Another thing to think about is the poor PI Segment server. We're working the tail off the poor thing. Can it handle the load, and a potential 50% or greater increase?

Yes, this all in good fun.
