    Quad-core gaming

    Quad-Core games and Athlon FX-70s!!! ... mmmmmmmmm...

The quad-core gaming era is about to begin. In less than a week, the world’s first quad-core enabled game will hit store shelves, Gas Powered Games/THQ’s highly anticipated 3D RTS, Supreme Commander.

Aren't the FX-70 and 74 both still dual cores? The actual Quad core chips won't ship till this fall and AMD can get that close to those silly Intel Boys supposedly quad core systems they have out. I would say the INtel people need to rethink there 4x4 setup and get with the deal. Unless I am wrong?

Yea, that is true. The amd quad cores that are out right now are just a pair of a little bit faster X2s that are on a dual socket motherboard. Intel's quad core is only 2 Coreduos stuck on the same die, so they have bottleneck issues. AMD will have the first native quad core, i can't remember if they are connected via the hypertransport or the direct connect technology, but i do know that by doing this it solves the bottleneck issues. Intel has no quad core solution to the bottleneck, but they are going to have a native octi core.

Some rumors say that you can see the native quad cores crunching on boincstats http://boincstats.com/stats/host_cpu...r=bo&st=0&or=8
    they're at the top.

The best part is that the socket 1207 is THE ONE that I was asking about a few days ago, the path that has quad-core upgradeability.
So, a board with 2 of those sockets, can right now take 2 dual-cores, and in the future take 2 quad-cores!

I have one of those boards right now in my hands. Asus L1N64-SLIWS. I'm waiting on the rest of the parts to show up, so I can put it together. Yes, this board is supposed to accept the native quad core barcelona when it comes ot in a couple of months. Just think, possible 8 cores on a mb. Holy powerplant Batman! Its funny, it has a logo on the box called "QuadFather", anyhow here is a great link that show someone with dual 2218 opty cpu's on it, OC'd to 3ghz.

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ighlight=L1n64

I'm getting 2216 CPU's with 4GB of ram to put on this. Initially I'm going to Air cool, and then switch to water after I get all those parts ordered. I'm figuring out that now. I'm trying to find a good waterblock for the socket F. I'm not sure at this point if a AM2 wb will fit. I have some questions out there looking for the answer.
